Just got home and I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment(or maybe it is just all that free alcohol coursing through my veins....). Here are a few fractured impressions.
Backwards compatibility is a go!!
All games are minimum 720p.
Final Fantasy XI
Ghost Recon 3 looks absolutely incredible with some of the most solid looking environments ever.
PGR 3 looks incredible.
DOA 4 looks incredible!!!
Call of Duty 2 is EPIC!!
Need for speed most wanted looked a bit crummy.
Xbox Live is free in its current form on the 360.
It does TV, movies on demand, music, etc, with wireless sharing of stuff with everything wireless(PSP, PC, etc).
I got an E3 05 custom limited edition Xbox 360 faceplate!!!
BTW: I was one of the gamers on stage.

it sounds like backwords compatibility is only with the newest xbox titles that are coming out not one's that are really out yet.

Actually its selective backwards compatibility with the titles that MS finds to be the "best of the best". Argh. Disappointment. Sorry but Sony really has me spoilled now.

I was drooling for the 360 until Sony unveiled. My oh my have Microsoft made a mistake. If punters can hold off until early next year, Microsoft are going to struggle to claim any superiority.
I think most people now want the PS3 over the 360 in terms of hardware. And probably in terms of games, too. Though there are undoubtedly going to be some exceptional 360 games launching this year.
I can't wait to see what Nintendo bring to the table.

/agree If kill zone 2 freaking looks like that, is that smoth. Sony will rule again .. All of the Ps3 games that I have seen so far, simply BLOW Xbox 360 away. Tho xbox 360 Live stuff looks really good. Hope Nintendo can pull something out of there hats

Not me.
MS actually lets 2D games get released for their system, Sony for the most part does not. That's key for me. As is MS's far superior online community.
I really don't care at all about the PS3. I won't pick one up until a price drop of if a new fantastic Twisted Metal gets released.

I wouldn't go so far as to say PS3 blows away Xbox 360. Killzone 2 looks absolutely fabulous but so did Killzone 1......
It is difficult to judge at this point.
According to gamespot.com their specs seem fairly similar with only a slight edge to PS3. Plus the PS3 is ugly, with a very questionable controller.......though I shant throw rocks until I try it at E3 on Thrusday.....
At the show, the most next-gen looking of the titles were definitely PGR3 and Ghost Recon 3. There was a solidity to everything that is hard to explain until you have seen the games running in 720p.
Oh and if anyone is interested, here is a picture of the E305 custom faceplate that I got at the Shrine.

Did you notice the Joust icon in the menu??
According to the conference Xbox Live Arcade will be free to all and they showed solitaire and others but also mentioned classic games and one of the icons was Joust.

This may seem like an odd question, but what can the newer consoles really do that the older ones couldn't? I mean, in anything that really sets them apart?

Final Fantasy XI
Sort of off topic. But the main thing I like about this upcoming generation of systems is that Square-Enix is developing for all three players so there isn't really any "trump card" company basically decided a systems fate from the get go.

Bigger environments. More characters on screen.
There was a clip of Kameo where she rides through seemingly hundreds of enemies.
Better framerates, higher resolution.

What really bugs me is the new feature they put into Xbox live.
A feedback section. Seems like a good idea at first, but whose to stop idiots from abusing it.
People might start giving people bad feedback just because they want to be an asshole. I know a lot of people who play online and know what I mean.
People are going to start abusing it like they do the vote you out of the game option. Watch and see.

How does selective compatibility work? Does it only apply to new games that come out and it's up to developers to ensure their games work for both systems? Otherwise how does the console *know* which games it can play? o.O
I know the question probably sounds... ignorant. But well it is... I don't understand the concept at all.

Maybe it is selective compatibility like PSX to PS2 where some older games simply won't work, or they have embedded some sort of emulator that allows it to run with say the top 200 Xbox games, or maybe they just added the moniker best-selling Xbox games because it sounded better than just saying Xbox games ?????
