those titles having spanned several systems, i am wondering as to which has the most extra content? i've heard some of the ports have bad FMV, is that noticable?

The GameCube probably has the highest-res models of all versions. The N64 version of Resident Evil 2 apparently had some "extras" to explain the original to newcomers.

Whenever you have a question like this, ask gamefaqs.

RE2 http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/gamecube/file/resident_evil_2_version.txt

RE3 http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/gamecube/file/resident_evil_3_version.txt

RE: CVX http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/code_veronica_x_changes.txt
NOTE: this does not include the GC version specifically, however the gc version is identical to the PS2 version.

I prefer the DC ports of RE 2@3 overall both have extras that were not in the original PSone versions especially 2. Ive read that the Gamecube ports are the same as the Dreamcast versions.
Although the DC RE3:Nemesis is just a port of the PC version I still love it best :D
and by the way Dino Crisis looks very nice on the DC as well especially compared to the original PSone version.

Code Veronica was much better on DC In my opinion with smoother graphics and gameplay (jaggies on PS2) wich is the system it was originally developed for although the PS2 version has a few more minutes of FMV.

The PC ports of RE 2 (and I assume 3) look great on a high-res monitor with crisp graphics. I don't think the models are high-res, but they don't look too bad. Very hard to beat that on a TV. Control is decent enough. However, the save system is completely broken on newer (i.e. Windows XP) computers, so you need an older PC to play it properly (unless you want to get through the whole thing in one sitting - I've come somewhat close).

I've been able to save without problems playing the PC version of RE2 under XP, using the 'Win95' compatibility mode. I think I had some other problem with the installer or something, but eventually it all worked.

Looks like you've gotten lucky, then, as pretty much nobody else can get it to work, even with compatibility modes. :(

Urgh, PC Resident Evil is awful. Those horrid, grainy, pixel-pumping backdrops. And the control system is bad enough without using the bloody arrow keys. Keep it console, people!

One thing that hasn't come up is the topic of controls.

I was raised to play RE w/ the playstation dual shock, but I've slowly gotten used to the Cube's controller.

I tried some games w/ the DC controller, but its just too different for me. And I don't think I would have a hope w/ the N64 controller - which is why the game is still sealed. The thought of no load times though...juicy.

So the question was about content...

1st Resident Evil - really, the GC one offers the most modes and improvements. But its pretty much a new game. I haven't played the original PSX release, but have played the director's cut. I can't speak for the music, but the DC is supposed to offer more game modes.

RE 2 - N64 has the EX files. But you can just read those online if its a big deal. I believe DC, GC, and PSX dual shock offer similar extras though - the Battle mode, and 4th survivor.

RE 3 - Dreamcast. More unlocked stuff right from the start. And more importantly, a closet full of outfits for Jill. I probably would have played this through many times if I could get used to the controls.

Code Veronica - Has to be PS2 or GC versions. Its not the same w/o the added scenes w/ Wesker. There is a reason that in Japan, the game is called Code Veronica Complete (as opposed to the original DC release - Code Veronica).

:D

I have become very addept to controling the Resident Evil games on both the DC and Gamecube but Im also one of the few gamers that actually like the GC's controller ;)

Ive been playing the beautiful RE0 on Gamecube recently and its very easy for me to go from that right into RE3 on Dreamcast with next to no problems adjusting to the far different control setup.
