I post another forum where there's a high level of WOW geekdom and everyone there agrees that it's faked. I haven't played the game myself, so I have no idea what the hell they're talking about.
"Leroy Jenkins" (or more appropriately "LLLLEEEEEROOOOY") seems to be an early contender for 2005's "all your base".

I post another forum where there's a high level of WOW geekdom and everyone there agrees that it's faked. I haven't played the game myself, so I have no idea what the hell they're talking about.
Yeah, it's probably staged.
It's real
1) Leroy sits AFK then rushes while planning is going on. We all know this crap happens.
2) The whole raid group stands in complete confusion after the rush happens.
3) They fight like they're really trying to bail out Leroy.
4) Toons start running for the exit after they realize they're screwed.
5) The pissing and moaning after everyone dies.
It's fake
1) No one calculates odds like that. How could you even do that? That part is probably nails it as a pre-staged thing.
2) As much as I want to believe, yelling your name as you run into a fight isn't something that happens.
3) Why would they be recording the TeamSpeak session in the first place? Not common practice.
It's fake, but damn it...

Maybe I run in different circles, but, I guess I could see why you'd record teamspeak conversations during a particularly important skirmish, raid, or otherwise carefully planned event.
I don't make a habit of recording our chats when I play online, but, different strokes and all.

Ok, so THIS is what my friends were talking about. I was playing FFXI and I was in a group of 12 people, and this guy kept running in and screaming "LEEEEROOOOY JENKIIIIIINS!" He didn't die though, but everyone was laughing. O_O

Heh yes, being one of the main WOW players here, that has been all over, I even have an emote for the game /leeroy, with says <character> invokes the power of leeroy jenkins, and plays the sound clip. Yeah it was staged, but its still funny as hell.

Just to let you know, about 20 people here at work just saw the clip...none of them are gamers, and they all laughed very hard at this clip. So staged or not, it is comedy gold.

no it's a "you're the man now dawg" (from the movie finding forrestor, and the "ytmnd" of the domain name) site, so all the concept is a phrase in raised letters, with a tiled wallpaper and some random soundbite. so yeah it has no true function other than to be looked at for a bit and closed when it gets annoying

I showed this actually just Thursday to a WOW player in class, he had never seen it! He thought it was hilarious because apparently stuff like this goes on all the time during the game. (I am not a MMORPG player.)

My buddy who is a pretty big WOW player said he thought the reaction was about right. In WOW, when you die, you don't loose experience, just "weapon fatigue" which can appearently be bough back with a bit of money. So the reaction of the party being mildly irked was more or less accurate, unlike EQ2 or FFXI where his teammates would have him drawn and quartered. Or so I hear.
