I recently added another NES test cart to my collection. I have five total now, but I have two port testers and no NTF2 cart. All of the test carts I have seen are all that yellow-orange color (with the exception of the NTF2 which is grey) and they all have non-glossy labels and copyright dates of 1990 on the front. Also, they all have regular screws in the back, not security screws. The last port test cart I found is yellow-orange, but has a super-GLOSSY label and a copyright date of 1992. It also has security screws in the back. Has anyone else seen this variation on the label and date and screws?

Ah, the loveliness of NES variations... even on test carts :)
I don't have much knowledge on test carts, but othes here who have actually bought out old nintendo stations might be able to shed some light on the topic. I too want to know as i absolutely love (and hate) to know about NES variations.

I've got about a dozen carts...I'll pull them out and see how some of the duplicates compare to each other. There are variations on the SNES testcarts as well. Give me a day.

I checked my carts and here is a list of them and their copyrights and "screw configurations". I noticed no special "glossiness" on any of the labels. Hope this helps. take care. Doug.....................PASTE>>>>PASTE>>>>PASTE>>

Thanks for the info Doug. Did you notice a different type size between the two Port Test Carts? So the 1992 Port Test Cart does not have a glossy label? Thanks again.

I pulled the two port test carts out to compare and there are some very distinct differences. The '92 label is "glossier". The type, font, and even the picture are a little different. The '92 has smaller font everywhere, except the mario picture is made with heavier lines, and the word "REV" on the minicart is a larger font (the mario picture is the same size). Also the '92 has the "registered trademark" ( the little circle with th "R" in it) after the word SERVICE. The circle is high like an apostrophe. The '90 cart has the "TM" letters instead of the circled R after the word SERVICE . The TM is also low like a comma. The top of the label seems to be identical on both carts.
