View Full Version : Now that E3 is Over, What System Are You Considering?
Myself, I am thinking more strongly than ever towards a DS. With a LUNAR, Sonic, and Castlevania game headed for it, as well as Feel the Magic already there, it has the games I want most.

Im going to stick with the ps3 :) Microsoft didnt do enough of a job wooooing me into getting a the 360. I bought an xbox a while back and sold it when the new pstwos came out.

I agree, what with the real lack of game play footage from the PS3 and my distain for the Xbox franchise. The DS really had some games I was looking forward to. I was suprised too I never thought I'd buy a DS really, but with mario kart coming along with Castlevainia I'm going to have to.

Ain't no good messing with Sony's Hood.
The PS3(turbo duo lookalike anyone?) gets my vote 1st. As I heard more about it, the more stoked I was. It feels like a step ahead instead of a 3/60th of a step ahead knowwhatImean? :D :D
And the Revolution...Solid for not knowing anything about it. Yes, I will pay yet again for SMB on NES. I just hope nintendo gets the rates and realities of an online counsel right.
Oh, honorable mention to the GBA micro. Dude I have like four ways to play my GBA carts(GC, GBA, GBA SP, and GBA micro). Sweet!
It feels like a step ahead instead of a 3/60th of a step ahead knowwhatImean?
Oh yeah, dude, totally. 1/20th is what you're looking for. :P

I'm still thinking the 360 looks best although wil have to wait to see the Revolutionary aspects of the Revolution before I make a final decision. I'm not going to get any of the next-gen consoles though. Stick with my DS which is getting ever more exciting games announced and shown

As console wise, I'll get a Rev. something but no telling when.
But I will get I DS, I dont know if I can wait untill Christmas to get one!
I won't be buying any of them until they are out for a while, and I can see what types of games are being made for each one (not just the titles announced at E3). And hopefully when the price comes down - in about 1-2 years... ;)
For now, it's the DS for me (which I got last week)! 8-)

I'll also say Playstation 3, but I'll have to wait a little while longer for the opening price to drop down by a few hundred bucks. For right now, I'm happy with my Playstation 2.

360 for me. The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion looks awesome.
Revolution and DS second with NES, SNES, and N64 games downloadable and Castlevania for DS among other things.
PS3 third. Nothing looks really interesting to me and the controller looks more painful than the Xbox Controller S.

With the possiable Launch price points being between 400 and 500 USD I think I may wait this gen out. well at least till there is a serious price drop. I'm not saying there not worth it. I just can't justify spending that much for one console.
considering how generous nintendo is when it comes to price drops and such that may very well be my first console of the next generation.

I'll get all three eventually, I'm sure, but I will get the Revolution first, if it comes out with the ps3 in the spring. Otherwise I will get the XBOX 360. Sony lost me with the shitty disc read errors. I've had 3 PS2s, and I've played my gamecube and xbox much more. They have never broke.

I am definitely getting A revolution shortly after it comes out. Though I haven't heard much about it(really didn't pay attention/care about E3 coverage), Nintendo has seldom disappointed me, and so I'll end up getting that. With the Revolution, the downloading option really appeals to me, and I am sure there are going to be more great things with it. Plus: Animal Crossing I heard is coming to the Revolution..that's more than enough to convince me to get it.
I may pick up the other two at one point or another, but I still need to get a PS2 and Xbox...I am quite behind in this generation of consoles.

Seriously, I don't know yet what system I would go with. It is still to early to judge. I am sure eventually I will get them all, it is just a matter of which one I get first and actaully pay full price for.

It will be a tough choice with the high prices for sure. I'm guessing that the Revolution will be cheaper by at least $100-200 compared to the other consoles. But I don't see anything from Nintendo that I anticipate more than Perfect Dark 0 or MGS4. It's one of those choices where we really don't have enough information yet, and probably won't for a while, with the ever increasing stakes.

NONE - its way too early to tell
PS3 - still had that look i dont like in the games - i dont know what it is but its just seems the worlds are short (dont know how to explain it ) - and just have that look that has existed since the PS1 -- yes way more detailed
- wont stop me from getting one though - since i get them all anyways -- but out of all the systems i felt the sony system was the bigest upgrade from its predicessor - and sony calling the 360 a xbox 1.5 i think just shows how behind the ps2 was in the first place
Xbox 360 - sure it isint a huge upgrade - thats becasue of how much better in was in the first place - graphics chips didnt get that much more advanced in the industry - just some extra bells and whistles added
revolution - from what i saw - i felt that all they did was catch up to the xbox 1
i just felt disgusted when seeing how real that ghost recon game looked for the 360 - when i turned on G4 they were showing it and at first i thought it was a comercial for a movie or a army comercial - looks way to real
same with that fps for ps3 killing day or somethign like that
oh - the best thing i saw was the new GBA - thoght it was great - i just have to hold one now to see if the smaller screen bothers me
i never buy a system when it first comes out - i wait to see what happens first

All from last year. I'd say the Phantom was dead, but I don't think anyone really considered it to be alive in the first place. :)
On-topic, however, I'm mostly interested in grabbing a Revolution. I'm interested in the 360, but I still want to see how limited the backwards compatability is. Sony lost me with the shitty disc read errors.< MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY I will never buy another sony system no matter how popular it may be with the mass of casual gamers.
After 2 PSones and 3 PS2's Im not donating a singe penny to Sony for another bug riddled system.
I like the Xbox360 its not trying to be anything but a good solid game system and thats all I want I dont care if the PS3 can cook your dinner and deliver a baby all at the same time or if the Revolution can gyrate in strange places x_x
All I want is good games and a good solid WELL BUILT gaming system to play them on.
I am interested in the Revolution so in about a year or so I hope to have the Xbox360 and Revolution setting side by side as my next-gen gaming setup. Replacing my current wich is my trusty old DC and built-like-a-rock Gamecube.
I think that the Gamecube still has sooo much to offer I hope there will still be a few more good gamecube games released after Zelda :(

You know, at first when I watched the new ps3 videos such as Killzone 2 I was like this: @_@ at the graphics and I was dead set on buying one once it came out. Now, I dunno, I just kinda lost interest in it already. It just seems like it is going to be all about graphics than gameplay. The Revolution is what is keeping my interest the most. The concept of downloadable NES, SNES, and N64 games is getting me very excited. I just hope it is going to be worth it. I really hope that they don't overcharge for the games. I mean after seeing how much they are charging for the NES games on the Gameboy Advance SP I'm a little worried. Plus, after reading an interview with Miyamoto (I believe it was with him, anyway) he kinda changed up what they originally had said they were going to be doing with the downloadable feature. He mentioned something like how they have the technology to have every game that has ever been on their systems available. But then he said that he doesn't know which games that they are going to actually make available to download. This got me a little bummed when I heard this. It seems like they are only going to have the most popular such as the Marios and Metroids and Zeldas. Hopefully the feature will be very large and worth using.
Anyway, I am really excited about the Revolution. The thought of more Marios and more Zeldas and more Metroids on this new Nintendo gets me excited :D (That wasn't sarcasm, even though I'm sure it sounded like it was).

But this is the fallacy that better graphics capabilities don't make for better games. Sure they do - look at Unreal Tournament 2K4, Half-Life 2, and the seamlessly controlled wall panels in DOOM III. We've seen all sorts of innovation recently in FPSes; who's to say that the new generation of consoles won't bring these and other wonders to the console scene? Fully destructable environs? Hell yeah.
As for old Nintendo games on a new system...no...no thanks. Not unless I get something really cool for buying it (this is a RARE revision of the Kid Icarus ROM, only 100 downloaded LOL )

also looking to probaly get the revolution because damn that looks like it should be a great system

Yeah, I agree that nice graphics add a lot to a game and I really hope that other games that aren't fps games will have good gameplay along with great graphics.
Well, maybe I shoulda put it differently - More power = more than just good graphics! Good physics simulation, for one, is something that's lacking even in most XBox games. I think the new generation holds the promise of essentially wiping that out. It also gives the developer more free space to work out strategies for emergent behavior (unplanned, but made possible), both on the part of the player and the AI.
As for the PS3 and unreliable hardware, well, I always say that you get what you pay for and people would refuse to pay more money for a rock-stable system that was bigger. Tradeoffs, big ones, come with making the system affordable, small, and silent...

I'll probably pick one up on launch day. I just hope they come in cool colors right off the bat. I want a white system.
Later, I'll probably pick up a PS3. I'm definitely going to wait until they get some of the inevitible hardware kinks worked out, though. Afterall, it is Sony we're talking about. I also hope they ditch that horrible controller design. Ugh.
I dunno. Nothing about the XBox360 has made me remotely interested.

I'm still firmly in the Microsoft camp. They're evil, but not Sony evil. The PS3 looks like it has potential but i just can't trust Sony. I expect the PS3 to suffer massive quality control problems just like the PS2 (DRE's anyone?) and the PSP (fucking dead pixels). Not to mention the the PS3 controller looks like it's gonna be uncomfortable as all hell and too small. Even if Killzone was done in real time the controls will sucks so bad by default that it won't succeed.
360 on the other hand has a solid stable of titles, DOA4 is right at the top of my list, but so is Gears of War. 20gb stock HDD (Notice that Sony said a 2.5inch HDD slot, no mention of an actual HDD) Xbox live, the single greatest online system in gaming history, and of course a comfortable looking controller. It will have better looking Graphics when it launches then it had at E3 because the demos we saw were just running on Alpha kits (not pre-rendered hype) and besides it's the gameplay that matters not just the pretty graphics.
The revolution just doesn't do it for me. MS fucked up at E3 with how they presented things, but Nintendo fucked up far worse. We just don't know enough about the revolution to make it interesting. I understand how secertive Nintendo is, but the fact is E3 was the time to unveil and they fucked up, Big time. They lost their chance to gain some fire and momentum.
So 360 this fall for me. But i don't see me owning a PS3 for at least 2-3 years, because i'm sure it'll break. Sony claimed that they under promise and over-deliver, but that's the opposite of what they do. Remeber the Emotion engine? Sorry Sony, but i'm just not buying the bullshit. MS, NINTENDO, then coming up last it's Sony.

What about the PSP? I didn't really pay attention to E3 outside of the system launches and Nintendo stuff. I'm not really interested in the games currently available but my brother got one and I thought that the PSP has a quality feel to it. I think its got a lot of potential but unless they make some unique games that aren't rehashes of PS2 stuff I'm not interested. I also thought the gameboy mini was one of the worst ideas nintendo has come up with. Why waste your time on a new gameboy that doesn't do anything new? Well, what the hell do I know, they'll probably end up selling them for $ 50 and sell another 10 million of them.

Other than my Phantom (I want that prototype dammit! LOL )
I probably will for sure get a 360. Besides, I have a full year to save up for PS3 or Rev. By then, the 360 will have been out for some time and if MS is smart, they will lower the price of the 360 when the PS3 and Rev comes out. So Sony and Nintendo will be forced to sell thier consoles for cheap! See, it is a win win situation! :D

Anybody seen that pic of NBA Live 06 for the XBOX 360?
It shows Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat doing a little flip shot. Man if that is Freaking real, then "it's on like Donkey Kong" as far as I'm concerned.
I haven't been a fan of the Live series since NBA Live '96 on PS1.
By the way, Live '96 for the PS1 is one of the most underrated old school basketball games in existence. The last NBA Live before the advent of polygon characters. Give it a try!
But anyways, I haven't been a fan of Live for a long, long time.
But if that shot is a real shot of the game for the 360, then I'm going to be in seventh heaven in November. Man, playing that game on a 113 inch screen in 720p is going to be absolutely ridiculous.

The DS is a definite as soon as they get some worthwhile games on it. I may also wait until they have some cool colors or "limited editions" of it.
The Revolution is a possibility.
The PS3 is only a possibility if they have some must-have games that aren't coming out for any other system.
The Xbox 360 is something I'm not even considering. Just about all the good games can be had on the PC, and a good PC > Xbox any day.

I am sure that knowing Nintendo of the past that the new system will be under 300. The DS is turning out to not be a piece of crap after all. I look forward to seeing what they can do with it, It is growing on me. The Xbox 360 is on my mind, I am curious what price point they will be selling it at. The first PS1 I had use to skip like crazy after having it for a short while. Then in 97, Sony put the laser on the left side(REDBOX PS1) and I never had a problem since. I had this same PS1 from 97.
The first PS2 I got I had from April 2001 until Dec 2003, then I started having problems with it.(DRE). The next one I got, the Dualshock 2's R2 button was broken when I took it out the box for the first time. I heard a rattle when I shook it.
Im not saying I would'nt buy a Sony system again, but Im not going to be surprised if it's faulty in some way.

I'm not Anti ps3-360 but Nintendo was the only press conference that didn't have me bored to tears.
I would love you to explain this one. I hate sony but i loved their press-conference. I love MS and i enjoyed their conference. Nintendo was a massive dissapointment for me. I was so bored by the end i was banging my head against the desk. I'm not alone either as many people feel this way.
So really, how did nintendo not bore you? i really want to know.
Are you talking about the same press conference? Sony's two hours were worst than sitting in church at the age of 4. The last 20 minutes are where things kicked off. Yes, seeing leaves blow in the wind was neat, and ducks dropping into a tub, and watching the freaking demonstration with the Gas Station exploding without the help of a Graphics processor was neato! But goodness, any more charts on Floating Points and Speed comparisons and people wouldn't have been able to nap amidst all the snoring.
Nintendo on the other hand, was short, comedic, and entertaining. Maybe you don't like seeing dogs humping, or Iwata making a parody of Reggies now classic E3 speech. I think it's funny when a small japanese guy asks a Psychopath, "Who's your daddy".
Personally, you and your friends, need to find a sense of humour. Here, we'll test it right now. Tell me if you laugh at this.
"Alright. Thumbs Up. Let's Do This. Leeeeeerrroooooy Jeeeeeenkiiiiiiins!"
Now back on topic.
I think the DS actually gave the best impression at E3. We got to see some newer games, some games we already were aware of, but with face-lifts, and saw that yes, Nintendo is supoprting this system, along with third party developers.
I was also impressed with what the PS3 was capable of. Moreso though, was the software that Sony is licensing out that allows them to perform light captures. Did anyone see the demonstration where they placed a Virtual Doc Ock in the press room? That was very impressive. Although I do not like that they are trying to force the Blu-Ray media. 100Gigs, on Four layers, is not necessary. I mean, look at this current generation of games. Sony and MS used standard DVD sizes, but the same games fit on a GameCube disc.....so why did we need all that extra space? The best argument I have heard for the larger media on the next gen is uncompressed audio. That owuld be nice.
The X360 is pretty much sitting there with the PS3 in my mind. I'll just have to wait. I lean a little more to the X360 due to the great comeback Microsoft made with the current Xbox. I hated it for the first two years. I thought MS was going to be a complete failur in the console gaming world. Although, after about two years of garbage, they started finding (buying) companies that could make quality games, and put them to work. Eventually we saw decent titles roll out for the console, and I began recommending it over a PS2.
Last, but not least, is the console that I will most likely pick up on launch, and that would be the Revolution. There is one, lone reason for this. It's not the ability to download older games (but it helps), or the online multiplayer in Smash Brothers (though it helps) and not even that the revolution looks like a pretty console instead of a computer tower (but I like the red one). The one reason is that i have never gotten over not owning a N64. There were titles on that system that I missed, and regret missing. Thank goodness for the Legend of Zelda collectors disc, as now I can reaffirm my claim of beating ever home console Zelda (Omitting the CD-i). I am glad I picked up a GameCube, because there were a good number of titles that i would have regrettee not getting. True, my lack of an Xbox means there are a few games that I missed, but it's not like I felt when I turned my back on Nintendo. The truth is, Nintendo makes the games I want to play.
Also, Nintendo has made it known, in numerous interviews (With Jane or Miyamoto or Iwata) that it will be open for Independent developers to create games on. That, is an exceptional option in my opinion. Especially after reading the transcripts form the Game Developers Conference.
