I'm wondering about this question now since I have almost completed Metroid Prime II... I was able to get to the final boss, but I put it down for about 3 months. And now I'm not sure if I should go back to finish it or not. So what do you think?

Not beating a game after I started playing it is one of my biggest phobias. LOL I simply most beat a game after I've pick it up not matter how hard or bad it is.

EDIT: Whoops, meant to say "beating". :embarrassed:

only if you want to beat it....and then, if you do beat it, i would only go for 100% completion if you really loved the game

if you really just get sick of it, then just forget about it...its probably not worth the time or aggrivation to finish it

If it stops being fun, i'll stop playing. i have to many games that i want to play to waste time on ones i'm board of.

I'm an RPGer... starting a game and quitting... is like giving up on saving the world (usually is)... it has to get really boring for me to give up altogether. If it's somewhat boring, I'll just start skipping the optional stuff and power my way through the story.

Yes, because to me, beating a game is obviously very, very important. Since January, 1987, I've beaten a total of 391 games on 12 different consoles like Super Mario Brothers, Commando, Kung Fu, Strider '89, Strider '90, Strider 2, Final Fantasy 2, Drakkhen, Casino Kid, Wall Street Kid, Super Mario Land, Rampage World Tour, Mega Bomberman, Vectorman, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 1 & 2, Outrun, Space Harrier, Dragon Warrior, Super Mario Brothers 2, Smash TV, Mario is Missing, Gradius, Life Force, Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!, Bases Loaded, Sports Talk Football, Altered Beast, Rampage '89, Super Castlevania 4, Castlevania 2, Castlevania, Narc & the list goes on & on.

If I lose interest in a game, or it becomes a chore to play, it will be put on the shelf.

I play games to have fun. If the fun factor fades, then the game gets put into the collection never to see action again.

No, it is not. There are far better things to aspire to.

I actually prefer games that don't have a definite end, other than what you hope to accomplish next. DDR, Beatmania, various racing games, lots of old arcade and console games, etc.

Not really. I preffer games that are about high score, and seeing what level you can up to even though they loop. Unless its a game like GTA or manhunt. games with INSANE story lines have to be beatan. It' like not finishing a movie.

The choice is tough. However, if every game that posed obstacles was pushed aside... how many games would you complete? Probably very few rpg's, racers, shooters... or for that matter any game at all. I get the whole "but it's not fun any more" idea. That in mind, many games "fun " or not deserve another chance. I think too many poeple are willing to shelf games too early. If they are that difficult, shelf it, but why waste the money and effort in the first place. It is tough to tell what games you can complete or get max. use of, but follow up. Give it a shot. Try codes, strategy guides, etc.

I try to beat every game I start... I've even kept my FF8 save just in case I run out of every other game I own and can eventualy be forced to finish it for lack of options.

If its an RPG I usually finish it. Most RPGS have some part youd rather not do, but it makes every other part that much sweeter.

Other then that I dont start games that I dont enjoy I'll play for a couple of hours and if it seems good I'll see it though. Unless its got a bitch part that I just cant get past despite many tries. Then its game over.

If I enjoy it enough, I'll finish it. I loved Duck Dodgers for N64 so i went for 100% completion and I earned all 12 endings on Aero Fighters (Snes) because that game held my interest till the end and even now I still play it.

I really tried to get into The Grinch (Playstation) but it was just wasn't working for me. Now I'm currently playing Mean Bean Machine (Genesis) and I'll most likely play it till the end, It's addicting as hell. :-P

I see nothing funny in your post. I'm here to post, make friends and have fun NOT to be picked on by other members because of his or her disability.

Completing a game... important? Nah. I play until I really don't want to play anymore. If the story gets stale and boring, if the characters simply don't move me at all, if the whole experience feels shallow and I simply lose any interest I may have once had (*cough*FFVII*cough*) I just scrap it and, possibly, try it again at a later time.

Otherwise yeah, let it rust. LOL

Personally, I try to finish any games that I start, though if a game stops being fun, I'll shelve it. I've got far too many games to play to waste my time with ones that I'm not enjoying.

I would say that more than 75% of my games I never beat fully. If I dont like it I dont beat it, simple as that.

Hey, sport, he wasn't replying to your awesome post. Look at the name of the poll. "Is completing a game important?"

Back on track: for me, beating a game is pretty important. I have one friend who constantly gets about 90 percent through a game and lets it go. It kills me.

But just because it's an RPG, it doesn't mean I'll finish it. For instance, the terrible voices and strange pauses in Baten Kaitos made me put it away. For instance, when you talk to someone, the screen fades to black and reloads, then you have the discussion. Then it fades to black and you can walk away afterward. That game might be good, but it's a chore.

So.. important? Not necessarily. As long as I'm having fun.

Good point. I made the question too vague. I'll rephrase that a bit to clarify things. "If you play through a game, do you feel a need to complete it?" :)

It's weird ... I went ahead and voted yes, although for me, it depends on the genre.

When it comes to RPGs, I have this strange urge that always makes me finish them no matter what once I've started them, sort of like Nez said. Yes, I even forced myself to finish Beyond the Beyond, and afterwards, I regretted that. I guess it was that whole "I've spent so much time on this damn game that I might as well finish what I've started." I've done this with every RPG I've played. Right now I'm playing Ys Book I & 2 for the Duo, and I'm absolutely going out of my mind trying to defeat freaking Darm. I'm so close to beating that game, and I love it to death, but for some reason, Darm completely owns me everytime I face him. I'm sure he's not even that difficult to a lot of seasoned RPG vets, but for me, he's seemingly impossible. I gave up and continued playing Magic Knight Rayearth instead. I know at one point I'll go back to trying to defeat Darm, but for now, I get upset just thinking about it.

Anyway, long story short, yes for RPGs, and strangely, no for pretty much any other genre. I guess I'm just weird like that.

I don't finish many games, I get bored too fast. I don't really play games that requir long playing time and dedication. Like RPG's. I just throw a game in, blow some stuff up, and I'm good.

Most of the games I play are shmups and so you can't really complete them. In fact, since the score resets itself before too long, it's impossible to complete Asteroids on the 2600. It's all about gameplay for me and so if I find the gameplay tedious or boring, I quit, regardless of how close to the end I am. I'd say I've completed less than half of the RPG's I played because of this.
