Scans are proving VERY hard to find on the net so ive sifted through many a resources and managed to find pics from eBay, scans and box shots of 146 of the PAL releases although there are a few REALLY good ones im still missing ie

Adventures of Batman and Robin
Desert Strike
James Pond 3 Operation Starfish
Phantom 2046
Rise of the Robots
Ristar
Sonic Drift Racing
Sonic Blast
Sonic Labyrinth
Tempo Jr
True Lies
VR Troopers
WWF Raw
X-men Gamesmasters Legacy

id be grateful if anyone could send me a scan or a box shot/photo of any of these PAL games. The sonic ones i actually have but they're really bad and far away.
Either PM me or email me.

No box scans, but I've got pics of a couple of the carts you're missing there:

The -50 on the product code shows they're Euro releases (I think the US versions have the purple stripe anyway).

Thanks dude
if i do start collecting Game Gear PAL releases though i wont be able to limit myself to a small set so i best just try and finish my PAL Mega CD collection as i only have 5 games to go:

Snatcher
Formula 1: Beyond the Limit
Dracula Unleashed
Fahrenheit
Fatal Fury Special

Maybe it's just me, but I think the US/Euro GG released boxes look incredibly awful. Japanese GG collecting - that's the way to go. I'll probably pick up a US released Gear, but with loose carts. I was looking at Shinobi recently...god, it's horrible to look at.

There is no such thing as a PAL Gamegear game. ALL GGs are NTSC. Even the Euro ones.

The game gear may be region free but there are still PAL games and NTSC-US and NTSC-Jap games. People will collect one and not another, people won't care. They have distinct packaging and so they're different

That's why I try to refer to them as European rather than "PAL" ;)

Then again, that's not entirely right either since the same versions were also sold in Oz...

Dude, PAL/NTSC certainly has something to do with region, but they are completely different television formats. PAL operates at 50 half frames per second and has more scanlines than NTSC, which operates at approximately 60 half frames per second. Also, the color signaling is different on both formats, among other differences.

So, to say some GG games are PAL is completely false, since the GG screen operates on NTSC standards. Region free, yes, but not cross-TV-standard.

You can give your PAL Master System games a shot with a converter, if ya want.

It's an easy shorthand to describe games released in Europe, Australia & New Zealand. We all know Game Gears aren't in a PAL format. No need to get stressed about it.

...plus it's taken the topic off on a completely random tangent.

Saying the games are PAl is just like saying they were released in PAL territories it's not used to say they actually are PAL it's just an ease of use. It really isn't that important seeing as we all knew what they ment in the first place.

Maybe I should have added a smiley. I'm not sure what you guys read into that, but I'm not sure where "high and mighty," "proving each other wrong," and "getting stressed" came into this. Chill out guys. :)

Most of us here are collectors, and as collectors, we are often pretty meticulous. I didn't want somebody thinking there were PAL games for GG, as it is pretty misleading. I wasn't trying to prove anyone wrong, just inform. It was the right thing to do, because NOT everyone knows that, as mentioned above. I ain't higher or mightier than anyone, and there ain't anybody higher than me.
(Though my dick is enormous compared to, well, everyone.)

Yeah...rbudrick isn't trying to jump down anybody's throats :)

Besides, it really is a good idea just to use one letter more and say "Euro." Easy, and it makes you look more knowledgeable! Always a good thing :D

Not really because as Anagama said 'Euro' doesn't include Australia & New Zealand which are PAL Territories and so actually saying 'PAL' or 'PAL Territories' actually does make more sence especally when Aust/NZ gets their own exclusives sometimes too.

The fact is everyone in the conversation knew what was ment in the first place.

Your all wrong- the euro gg games are really australian, US games are from europe and Jp games are actually bootlegs!

Okay, maybe not. But Ive got WWF Raw (cart only):

http://members.iinet.net.au/~smi03/game_gear/wwf_raw_cart.jpg

I know, its an awful pic. Ill take a better pic tomorrow if you want. As a side note: if rarity was ever put into the guide, would it be based on cart only, or boxed/complete ?

Whatever. I refer to Australia & NZ by name, since their retro scene was different (i.e. SG-1000). I haven't looked closely at the backs of any Master System games from Australia, but I doubt the mutlilingual stuff is there, and you won't be finding a SMS Shadow Dancer released in Europe.

Many of the Australian releases use the same covers as the European versions (with "multilingual stuff"), but a number of the cases and cartridges were manufactured in Australia (the cartridge labels will also have white gridlines instead of black).
