After a long time of being without ANY game system, working all of the time, going through some major life changes (Daddy of 10 months) and having all around a bad streak of luck, I decided to reward myself today.
I took a three day weekend off work because I needed it, and because my daughter is getting baptised tomorrow. Everybody was out of the house today, and I went out to get a suit for the occasion. I ended up stopping by Target afterward to pick up some odd and end things, and bought myself a PSP.
I took it home, opened it, and lo and behold a BIG scratch on the screen. Argh! I went back, opened another at the return counter....AGAIN, a big scratch. I don't know what they do with their merchandise there, but WTF? I opened a third one, and with a sigh of relief, perfect. Brought it home, plugged it in. Perfect, no dead pixels as I have heard so many reports on. Thank god!
This thing is truly incredible. I knew the screen would be nice, but not THIS nice! So, I'm back in the game. Now the collecting commences!

yeah, that is what I originally wantd as a first game, but they were out. I got Wipeout Pure instead and have yet to try it. I already ordered screen protectors and a flexiskin to protect the unit. It's so shiny and new, I want to protect this baby before I start doing some hardcore game playing :)

I want ot be the first one to reccoemnd it, but you must get Lumines! Yes, its really THAT good! Even if you are not a fan of puzzlers, like me, this game is incredibly addictive.

Congrats on your 10 month old. I am the father of 2 little ones 4 yrs old and 6 yrs old. It will get easier for you, I found the first months to be a little rough. No time for games, I barely ate, lost weight and prayed for business trips so I can sleep 1 night soundly in a hotel.
Its all good now though...

You don't need any of that screen protector stuff if you splurge on the Logitech Playgear Pocket. The BEST PSP accessory/case BY FAR.

Yeah, this thing is really awesome. I can't believe I had to go through three of them tho to get a good one. Actually, that second one I opened not only had a scratch, but the screen had a series of bubbles (three of them) right dead center. The scratches may have occured due to shipping and movement (although the unit is packed in the box pretty tightly) but the bubble thing is definitely a manufacturer defect.
I tested a dead pixel checker today, which is basically just a series of colored jpegs, so you can see the screen in pure black, yellow, blue...etc. On the pure black screen, mine has a very very tiny one, way at the bottom, that can only be seen when you hold the unit at an angle. So, considering the horror stories I have heard, I lucked out. The dead pixel thing is not just Sony. I purchased two DS units as gifts for family members last year, and both had a dead pixel. My GBA SP had a bad pixel and I had to return it four times to get a perfect one. Just the nature of LCD I suppose. But, after the little ordeal I had with Target yesterday, this one is definitely not going back. Thing is, you never know if you'll get one that is worse.
Anyway, the system is damn sweet. Videogames have come a long long way, and looking at this system just screams that!

I also updated the firmware to 1.51 tonight. I read alot about this and how the "security fixes" are really just Sony blocking more loopholes to stop the use of homebrew software on the machine...but...if you don't upgrade you may get a screen like this:

Heh. Oh well, not like I would be doing anything other than buying games for the unit myself, but it would be interesting to see how emulators run on it. Then again, the current ones will only run on v1 Japanese systems...

I have a feeling they'll be getting around the 1.5/1.51 bios son enough for emulation/homebrew stuff, but only time will tell I guess.

Thanks for that advice BTW. I did order and recieve the Logitech Playgear, and it does rule. What a fantastic case. Soon after I ordered it (from EBGames.com) they went on backorder. Guess others know it's a very good thing as well.
