I am very confused about the difference between these 2 versions of Rainbow Islands. I am assuming they look different because one is PAL and one is NTSC. Does anyone know which is which? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between these 2 games?

I'd highly suspect the one with the Ocean label (them being a UK publisher at the time) is the PAL one. The artwork on the box is also the same that was used for ALL of their conversions of the game (8 bit computer, 16 bit computer etc).

Yup, Mayhem is correct, the 2nd auction you listed is for the PAL one, and the first auction is for the NTSC Rainbow Islands. You can find out by the game's title as well:

NTSC: Rainbow Islands
PAL: Rainbow Islands: Bubble Bobble 2

Ahhhh yes, grateful I am. So very blind I was. The force I am learning to channel through my mind.

I only learned yesterday, about PAL (A) and PAL (B) carts.

Apparantley PAL (A) works on U.K & Australian (and Italian.... ??) NES, and PAL (B) works on most of the rest of the European NES.

Yeah, you can get around any that aren't directly compatible by lifting pin 4 on the lockout chip (also lets you play US games, though some are glitchy).

Pretty sure I was happily playing French NES carts on my UK NES before I modded it though, so I don't know how much of a problem the PAL-A/B thing actually is.

You can play PAL games on a NTSC toploader, yes yes?

Yup...not sure if they all play smoothly though. At least all the PAL A & PAL B games that I have play fine on my NTSC top-loader without any problems whatsoever. ;)
