Odyssey 2 games don't play

I bought an Odyssey 2 yesterday and am havcing a bit of trouble with it.
It came with 4 games.
2 work fine K.C. Munchkin and War of Nerves.
2 don't work all that well.
Football starts up shows the players on screen, "whistles" (the refs whistle the manual talks about i assume) then nothing happens.
The other is Speedway/Spinout/Cryptologic
Speedway is the only one that has a problem on this one.
I can start the game but then all that happens is it shows my car in the middle of the screen and the timer stays at 2:00.
Nothing moves no sound timer doesn't count down.

Even if i can't exactly fix it i would like to know the reasons behind it not working right.

OK, first things first, just to get them out of the way.

You have tried to clean the carts and the system's cart input right? And if you just bought the thing, and if you have alyeady cleaned the carts and cart slot, have you tried completly opening the system to see if it needs to be cleande in there or if something may be loose or need fixing?

Sounds like a cleaning issue. I had the same thing happen to a couple of my o^2's. I spent a good day dealing with it before it actually started to play all the games. Keep cleaning the games and system, they'll work.

I can clean them the same way i would NES or SNES right?

Yes. For pretty much any cart out there you can take rubbing alcohol and a q-tip and clean the connections very well! After that there is more you can do, but that is proably the most important basic thing that you can do for your carts. You can also clean the cart input by putting a good, soft cloth with a little bit of rubbing alcohol over a credit card and putting that in the slot very carefully and very carefully cleaning the slot.
