Just a little bit ago I was looking through the PS rarity list and noticed alot of the rare games are by a publisher called Lightspan. Could someone give me a little info on this company like why are all their title rare.

From what I remember Lightspan is not a gaming company forsay, but an organisation that developes educational software. They focus on trying to get children to concentrate more on educational material, and less on watching TV. They developed educational games for kids as well as tought parents with classes throughout many schools how to set up the game system to a TV and all that.

Here's some info as well, with one more game needing to be added to the list.

Eepo! More stuff to add to the list. I really need to double check to make sure what we've got in there.

This stuff was rare because it was never released to the general public. The only real way to get it has been ebay, and or Home Teaching (IF your school district happens to have the stuff and was allowing it to be bought/rented out to the parents.)

As Jason has said in the game-rave link. It was a novel concept that hasnt been partaken on a level by any other company for any other system here in america. Too bad it didnt really take off.

Okay thanks guys, I don't think educational games for the PS weren't the best idea but whatever....

While photographing them for Game Rave, I actually have played each one just to get a feel for a quick review. Some of them actually had potential, but between moving a very small, hard-to-control CG square or playing Crash Bandicoot, I'm sure most kids went for hand-eye coordination over learning their 1,2,3's.
