Nintendo Characters of which you disapprove

Although Nintendo has conjured up some of my favourite videogame characters (Link, Zelda, Kirby), I am less than pleased with some of the company's more recent creations.

I'd cite a couple of Pokemon, but I'm rather annoyed by that franchise as a whole.

The character that inspired me to introduce this thread is Waluigi, Luigi's evil counterpart. I can respect Wario since he was a semi-original character, but the concept behind Waluigi stinks.

i agree about the pokemon franchise. even if it was/is a big seller, they shouldn't incorporate some two-bit cashcow trash into their own legions of characters. that would be like sony making the dude from GTA3 their mascot (although most people would enjoy that). sony needs to get a mascot, as they haven't really had a contender since crash bandicoot sold the hell out.

Waluigi makes more sense in Japanese. L is the same as R, and 'warui' means 'bad.' Crazy for puns, them Nihonjin.

(I have a soft spot for Pokemon partly because it has one of the first Japanese puns I ever recognized, in their version of Charmander, Hitokage :) )

I'd also nominate Mario after he was given the ability to speak.

...Tingle is great. Hes the videogame equivelant to the guy locked up for believing he is an Angel or a Glass of Orange Juice. The fact that hes sooooo pathetic just makes me giggle. Can't help but laugh a bit when you dash his hopes by snatching that big force gem he was after, and he hells out his little moan... (Four Swords Adventures)

But yeah, Waluigi. Simply because he was created for the simple reason of giving Luigi a Wario. He has no place in the Mario Universe besides Playing Tennis, Partying, Golfing, and Go-Karting. Maybe if they actually used him in a platformer (super wario bros.!) I'd be more interested in him.

I'm really not a big fan of the characters of Banjo, Captain Falcon, Princess Peach (I like Pricess Toadstool ;) ), etc...

Waluigi is just a terrible character. A rip off of wario and Luigi and he's just fucking lame. SERIOUSLY. Banjo's not much better. Tingle's annoying but he's an optional experience so i'll be nice to him.

Pokemon is the single greatest marketing gimmick in history and for that reason alone all pokemon products should be rounded up and burned in a giant fire.

Other the that nintendo's characters are pretty good.

I happen to like Pokemon. I'd love to know if anyone that's ripping on the franchise has spent any serious amount of time with the games. It's popular for a reason, the games are GOOD. Pikachu and Meowth are two of my favorite Nintendo characters, and I was a Nintendo fan ten years before they existed.

Anyway, Captain Falcon sucks, Slippy from Starfox sucks, but you know what? I'm still glad they're in the family of Nintendo characters, I like making fun of them.

Waluigi was just a natural evolution of the Luigi concept, if Waluigi is a cop-out, then so is Luigi. For everything that Mario does, there must be a Luigi equivalent, because he's player 2.

Some of the newer Pokemon are just getting wierd, but I haven't played anything plast Gold/Silver, so I can't comment on whether or not the gameplay innovations were worth the existence of extra games.

I didnt know Nintendo owned and created Pokémon. But I found this:


It was actually started with the Game Boy game called "Pocket Monsters" in Japan in 1995. It was an instant hit and it eventually got it's own TV series of the same name in April of 1997.

I think the voice of Waluigi is funny in Mario Kart Double Dash for Gamecube hehe.

They are, but I don't like her name change. She is no longer "Princess Toadstool" just "Peach" since Mario Kart 64.
