View Full Version : Pacific NW Roll Call (UPDATE website now up!)

I'm looking for people in the Pacific Northwest. This can include:
Seattle/Tacoma
Spokane/Eastern Wa.
Idaho (if you think you'd drive out to Western Wa.)
Vancouver/Richmond BC
Portland, OR
And anywhere inbetween. What I want to know is, who is up for a gaming/swap meet? Please vote your location, then reply with what kind of gaming meet you'd like to see (full-on two day event with guests and registration charge, one day at someone's house, primarily gaming, primarily swap-meet, classic or modern or both, etc), as well as how far in advance you'd like to know, and how far you'd be willing to drive.
Personally, I'd like to see NWCGE be fully revived bigger and better, but I'd be down for a smaller event like a swap-meet or gaming event held somewhere as well, especially if NWCGE isn't going to happen until next year. I'd like to see it happen in a 'venue' instead of someone's house, unless someone is willing to totally transform their front room (and rec room and bedroom and...^_^). And I'd like to see collectors band together to form a mailing list and get the word out about classic gaming.
Please post if you want to see an event in the Northwest!
UPDATE: The NorWere website is now up and running! you can access it at http://www.kindstranger.com/nwretro
Please check it out, and sign up for the Mailing List if you live in the Northwest region!

Well hells bells.
If it ain't about time for something to happen up north west territory.
You seemed to have left eugene off that oregon list ;)
No worries tho, i'm up for a bit of a travel. Washington is definately not outta of the question. I know there are a few posters on these boards that are from portland (evilmess, y-bot, digitalspace etc). Nesman is from southern oregon and kevincure and i are from eugene. if maxlords came back we could even have one from roseburg :P
Anyways, i'd love to get together and have a meet of some sorts. Seattle or portland, both are great cities. An all day thing would be best methinks and NOT in someones house.
Hope others will post with their input. Lets make it happen folks!

Awesome! Counting Rik from NWCGE and NE146 who is somewheres around here, we've got about 11 people so far in the area, and that's just from the boards.
I'd like to see at least 15-20 folks show up. I think it might be easier if we stick to straight swapping, since as Rik mentioned many locations require everyone who is selling to have a license.
Perhaps we can start a fresh mailing list. PM me if you're interested!
EDIT: A mailing list is on the way! Interested parties should PM me with their Full Name, email address, phone number, City, and State (or Province).

Sorry to kind of thread crap, but if I would have known about events like this, I would have been there so fast.
Too bad I moved to the Mid West. :(

Well, I go to school in NYC, but I'm a Pacific Northwest gal at heart and I almost always spend a good chunk of my summer vacation with my parents in Tacoma. If there was an event in the summer, I would totally be up to trying whatever I could to make it. :)
I live in Vancouver B.C. and would probably drive as far as Seattle.

I'm from Everett, so anything in the Seattle area's great for me. Of course, Oregon's always do-able too.

WOO HOO, Portland's winning! I'd be up for anywhere between Portland & Seattle. I would like to be able to sell as well as trade. I had a table at NWCGE last year and had a blast. I didn't find much for my collection though and if it was trade only I would have been out of luck. I like the format of NWCGE and the size was OK. It would be nice to have more people but I don't know how to go about that. There are hundreds or maybe even thousands of people in the northwest who collect classic video games but only a few read this message board. Anyway count me in and I will do whatever I can to help. I'm sure my friend Billy Galaxy is in as well.

Alright, thanks for the input! My main interest is in getting a swap-meet style event together where we can all meet and talk shop and play some games. I'd like to leave the big event to the NWCGE folks if they are still up for it (which I'm pretty sure they are).
I need to look at my handy event resource handbook again, but I'll see what the rules are about selling. I think it would be easiest (and cheapest) to use community center space, but they might have similar rules about outright selling.
Those of you who have sent me your information, I'll add you to the Mailing List. I'm particularly interested in hearing from those of you who'd be interested in helping to plan such an event, or have done so in the past.

@Anotherfluke PM is coming your way! right after this post...
things are going slow at NWCGE, some i'm to blame and some can be blamed on others. (not looking to blame anyone) just, we could use some help!! maybe some "new blood" are biggest problem is finding a place to hold it without needing a business licnences!! if anyone is interested in in being a NWCGE staff person, and can do some of the "leg work" on getting a place please PM me!
we have always kept it in seattle. (which is the big problem for me to do leg work) even thou personally i would not mind having it all over the Pacific NorthWest! (including vancouver,BC) @_@
Thanks for making this thread!!

I'd be all for going to a NW shin-dig. The NWCGE is always during finals or something where its really inconvenient for me to go. I'm in Idaho, but virtually everything is within 5-6 hours by car. Totally do-able on a weekend.

Li'l ole Kirin Jensen sayin' yep, I'd make it. If you keep the registration cost under $60 or so.

well for the swap meet, we would just ask to cover the cost of the venue space, which I see a 20 dollar ceiling at the max.
Rick, I'll be in touch with you; to everyone else, please PM me with your info if you want to be on the mailing list. I'll probably set up a NWRetro website soon so folks can see what's going on.

and NE146 who is somewheres around here
I am in downtown Bellevue... if you're near the Meydenbaur center, your close enough to be dangerous :)

Alright, we have a tentative date of June 25th, that's almost exactly 1 month from now on a Saturday.
One month is a little too early to have anything big (most public venues need 2-3 months lead time, plus a big ol' deposit that my broke post-E3 ass cannot afford right now), but I think we can maybe arrange a small swap/meet'n'greet at someone's house, and maybe go out for dinner. Join the mailing list if you're interested in coming, details will be posted there first, and you can use the list to post your want lists so people know what to bring with them!

Work in Seattle live in Kent.
It's good to hear of some NW collectors! So which one of you was the one who bought the Saturn's "House of the Dead" at the Seattle Goodwill from under my nose? :P
I don't know if I'll be able to attend anything in the near future (new kid, busy job, tight money, etc), but I thought I'd chime in, just in case.

Thanks for doing this Nathan. I will be looking forward to what gets put together here in the near future.
I know i would love to sell as well as swap. So if we can make it work both ways that would be great, if not, that's understandible.

Just another quick note for those of you who have missed out, or for those of you who have posted in this thread but haven't joined yet.
Northwest Retro is picking up steam very very quickly! We have some excellent people on board, including members of the NWCGE, and thinks are looking very good so far!
We are still confirmed for June 25th in the Seattle Tacoma area (location forthcoming) for a meet 'n' greet.
You can go to the NorWere website anytime to see what's going on, and to join our group/mailing list:
http://www.nwretro.org
Hope to hear from everyone soon!
