I noticed over at GameDevBlog that PublicBeta are offering their book, Difficult Questions About Videogames, for free. You only have to pay for shipping. I just ordered my copy. Hope you guys find this of interest.

This is their blurb:

"365 pages. 969 responses. 71 contributors.

Difficult Questions About Videogames is a unique and vital document of the state of contemporary thinking and opinion on this most pervasive, important and misunderstood of popular cultural forms.

Never before have CEOs, developers, journalists, academics and (of course) players been brought together to sweat it out over the same difficult questions.

Their answers are radical, loving, conservative, funny, mundane, controversial and emotional - what binds them together is the commitment that these questions are worth answering,"

Can't seem to order in the US. :(

I dropped them an e-mail. Hopefully they'll let me pay the difference.

Edit: For whatever reason, Firefox didn't pick up the drop down menu on the first screen when you head to checkout. That allows you to select a country. That's where the problem was. So, if you're using Firefox, you may need to switch over to do this.

I didn't have that problem in my Firefox. Odd. Glad you're going to go for it though :) They might make you look stupid with their reply email, though ;)

really? wow, 100 pounds is a lot for a book
I've got the book "Videogames" by James Newman, one of the editors of this book. Its basically an academic text on games and that only cost rougly £20. However this book does seem interesting and £5 seems like a good price so I may pick it up

They don't do paypal and I'm in the US? Damn, I was wondering if there was another book as good as this since I read "Power Up" that one book about Japanese games.

The book arrived today. And although I've only had time to read the opening few pages, I sense this will be a genuinely good read. It's nicely presented and, so far, very well written. I would recommend this, especially for £5, to anyone.
