BIKER MICE FROM MARS

Who's heard of this game?

If you liked ROCK 'N ROLL RACING, then you'll like Biker Mice.

It's based on a cartoon series that ran from 1993 until 1995. I have never seen the cartoon, so I can't tell you how closely the game sticks to the plot of the shows.

It was developed and published by Konami during the SNES' heyday of 1994 when Konami was putting out a lot of great stuff for the SNES, and it's a fantastic game.

Bike Mice is NOT a side-scrolling platformer. It's a very cool isometric racer much like Rock 'N Roll Racing. You can choose between six radically different racers (Mice, mostly) who ride different motorcyles, choppers, and a couple of futuristic racers. Each racer and his car have very different acceleration, speed, weapons, and handling characteristics.

Like R&R Racing, you win money for each race depending on where you placed. You use your winning to install upgrades on your bike. The upgrades make a big differance. You get power-ups after each time you pass the starting/finish line, include weapons, nitros, and cash.

There are four variations... Main Race, Battle Race (kill all your opponents), Time Trail, and the very fun Versus mode. This is one hell of a great 2-player game but make sure you choose racers with similar abilities... some of the racers are MUCH faster than others. Handling is VERY precise and the control is very accurate and smooth, just like R&R Racing.

There are 30 different tracks, but many are just variations of previous levels. The tracks start off simple and get harder and harder with more curves and obstacles the farther you progress.

The graphics are smooth and colorful, with no slowdown (that I can remember, anyway.) The soundtrack is a hoot... great catchy rock riffs with a lot of character.

The game isn't hard too beat on the earlier levels but presents a bit of a challenge later on.

It's a shame this game never got a sequel or at least a 2nd life on the GBA... R&R Racing is on the GBA and it plays great. Biker Mice would be perfect for the handheld treatment. As it stands, the Biker Mice only got one game, and it only appeared on the SNES.

There's usually a couple on Ebay going for cheap... a low profile is good for something! I recommend this to anyone who loved R&R Racing, and it's best played on its native hardware.

Cool, I'll look out for this one.

BTW, I do remember this short lived franchise. It was an awful, AWFUL TMNT clone.

I didn't care for the show, but Biker Mice From Mars is one of my favorite SNES games. Konami did a great job with the license.

Back in the day, my younger brother used to borrow the game from one of his friends on a regular basis and we had a blast playing it. When I started collecting SNES I made sure to hunt down a copy of my own as soon as I could, and within a month I found one at a local GameStop. :)

I wish it had a battery save instead of a password though. And what was with using those symbols instead of letters? I was playing through a game, but I lost the piece of paper I had the passwords written down on. :frustrated: (I might as well just start a new game - it's been about a year or so since I last played it anyways)

Biker Mice From Mars is a must-own if you're looking for good racing games on the SNES. Don't let the subpar license sway you away from this gem.

I remember both the cartoon series and the game. Although my memories of cartoons and kids tv shows is awful so i tend to remember little past the actual name. I probably only played the game for a few minutes at a friends house or something but i do remember it

I had no idea the show was that terrible. I always had this misconception that the cartoon was cool since the videogame was so cool. I went looking on the net to see if there had been any other games based on the Biker Mice (there have not) but I found several fansites including one that gave the plot of each episode IN DETAIL and another one where fans had submitted scripts for their own episodes. We're not talking two or three submissions here... I'm talking 20+ scripts from a variety of different people.

Just goes to show that there's a fan for EVERYTHIHG, no matter how dreadful. Even TMNT rip-offs.

It seems that this is a very rare example of a licensed game that is much, much BETTER than its subject material (the cartoon series.) Thanks, Konami! Too bad no one picked it up for a GBA port. It would have ROCKED.

Now go buy this game.

I used to rent this game from my Blockbuster every weekend because I loved it so much. The cartoon was alright for its time, the one cartoon I didnt like was the shark one....Street Sharks I think it was, now that one was bad.

The TMNT games have Pizza Hut, BMFM has Snickers... The people making Biker Mice had to rip off the Turtles THAT MUCH?
