I was looking through some of my video game stuff and found a Phantasy Star III hint book. In a page about one of the stores it says: "without Meseta all you can do is window shop"
am i the only one who did not know this. in my defense i wasn't a big Phantasy Star fan.

I knew that it was a video game currency, but as far as which game I wasn't sure :embarrassed:

I thought it was from "message" (mes) + "peseta" (money)= meseta.

I always thought "DPeseta" or "Presseta" was better, but now that I know...

At least it's not "gil". :D

They shoulda called it "BLING BLING", we'd have attracted more younger and hipper users. :P

No really, I didn't know at first, I called it Menesta and Joe corrected me, I felt shamed. :embarrassed:

don't forget zenny, you pick it up in lots of Konami games u c

By the way, I am very very saddened and disheartened that nobody has taken the time to open up a Phantasy Star weapons/armor shop :( I would put ALL my meseta into a suit of titanium armor! :D

I didn't know it was in any other game besides PS.

Time to buy a transer.

<-- NEEDS VISIPHONE AND AEROPRISM. BADLY. Will convert various currencies (gil, meseta, copper pieces, zenny, skulls, bottle caps, and much more)!

Meseta is probably my FIRST console money I've ever known! Isn't it? What else was before it besides Mario coins? :?

Is the outrage due to my mispelling or the fact that the games I listed don't contain meseta :? ? Cause I'm almost positive I've seen meseta in a PSX RPG.

aah yeah :D

Guess I didn't think of Zelda as my mind was stuck in console RPG's :) (And no I don't want to get into the debate about Zelda: rpg or not) :P

Possibly the best Joe response ever. Couldn't stop laughing. LOL

I wonder what a meseta looks like? I don't an actually visual representation of the meseta has ever been seen in a Phantasy Star game.

Yes, in PSO. Looks like a little yellow diamond shaped thing.

I actually have a mental picture of meseta (and always did), and I imagine the coins to look like sand dollars.

Reason?

Every once in awhile, my Great Grandmother would come to visit from Brownsville, Texas, and she would bring things from Mexico with her. One of the things she brought each and every time (besides REALLY GOOD VANILLA EXTRACT!) were cookies called "Mesetas", and they were very sweet, sand dollar shaped cookies about the diameter of a grapefruit. They came in a very large box (strangely enough, it was about the size of a grapefruit box) and were thin, and that meant we had quite a supply each time she would visit. Which means the name and association permanently stuck in my head.

So there it is. When I got PS, I didn't consciously make the Meseta/cookie connection, but I just instinctively felt it was little sand dollar type things. Later on I figured out why I thought that way.

never really played PSO so I'm not sure what the "visual representation" is.

and could someone tell me what faux pas I must have violated? I don't really see whats so funny about the misspelling of meseta and/or my comment in general :hmm: .

Wow, totally forgot about the PSO "diamond" meseta. Thanks of reminding me! Although I imagine carrying around 10,000 meseta in a little bag could get particularly heavy. :)

I actually looked it up in the wikipedia... and went, "Oh. Ok."

I'm an RPGer, but I've only played a few hours of PSO, and none of the other games.

I knew it had to be from some game, but I never knew what since I was never a Sega guy. I made the connection at E3 this year when I played PSU at Sega's booth though, heh.

I thought PSO, since I'm a longtime (and current!) PSo player, however I yet to actually sit down and go through the other PS games. Plus I never had any of them growing up, that doesn't help much. Someday i will play them though...maybe if / when the english versions of the sega ages 2500 remakes come over.

Breath of Fire use Zenny. Which Ed said was a Konami thing, it's actually a Capcom thing. Unless Konami uses it as well.

Wild Arms uses Gella.

Meseta is not used in any PSX RPG that I can recall.

Zenny shows up in a lot of places, under different spellings (Zenny, Zenni, Zeni). From what I've been able to tell, its a Japanese term from the 1600s for bronze coins.
