I'm trying to find out which PC Engine Hu cards are basically identical to the corresponding U.S. version of the game?

Of course, I'm talking about besides the title screen and some japanese words and stuff, but basically which PC Engine Hu cards are pretty much exact to the American version.

The reason that I ask this, is because I recently got my TG-16 region modded with a switch, so I can play both Japanese Hu Cards and American ones.

Alot of the U.S. TG-16 games on Ebay can go for a pretty hefty price, but sometimes the import version of an American game will go for quite a bit cheaper, mainly because not as many people have converters or PC Engine systems or TG-16's with region mods.

So, sometimes a game that normally might go for $15, can be had for $7, if you don't mind the fact that you are getting the import version of it. I personally don't mind very much, I just want to play the damn game. Again, as long as it's pretty much the same exact game, other than a title screen or whatever.

Anyways, if anybody knows of any specific examples, I would love to hear about them. Thanks!

Check out these two sites:

When you do a search, they'll pretty much tell you if there is a TG16 counterpart.

Pretty much every US TG16 HuCard was first released in Japan as a PC-Engine game. Some of the more expensive US games that you can find cheaper in PC-Engine format are as follows:

Dead Moon
Bomberman '93
PC Genjin 3 aka Bonk 3
Genpei Toumaden 2 aka Samurai Ghost (the
Shubibin Man aka Shock Man

Soldier Blade goes for about the same, but is much harder to find complete in US due to lame packaging (cardboardbox/plastic tray; no jewel) used by NEC late in TG16's life. Pretty much any US game that comes in this packaging like Shockman and Samurai Ghost above, is going to be a bit cheaper on the PC-Engine just due to the fact that complete copies are harder to find. Now loose copies are typically cheaper, so you could go with loose US copies if you don't mind.

I have a loose US Bomberman '93 if you are interested.

Power League 3 isn't World Class Baseball.

Power League is World Class Baseball

Power League II never came out in the U.S.

Power League III never came out in the U.S. and is a huge improvment over 1 and 2. I actually owned Power League III way back in like 1990 or so, and the game was amazing. 5 People could play at the same time and the playability of the game was great. Plus the graphics of the stadiums were cool too.

Splatterhouse is basically the same for both systems. The changes are relatively minor... Rick wears a white mask in the PCE version as opposed to a red mask in the TG16 version, and the stage four boss is an upside down cross (like the arcade) in the PCE version as opposed to the floating blue head ("Evil Sleep & The Nightmares" ) in the TG16 version. That's about the extent of the differences.

I am not aware of any HuCard games where there is an advantage to owning the US card. I don't think anyone bothered to actually change much of anything. Wasn't needed. I can't seem to remember (my memory of the domestic stuff is really foggy), but were there any games where they never got around to changing the title screen? It wouldn't surprise me.

I would say buy imports whenever they are cheaper. Even if they cost slightly more I would say the better packagaing is worth a few bucks extra.

I have only import cards personally, but if memory serves Splatterhouse is the only difference I've seen in game.

Except for a few games with more significant text (some of the games I'm thinking here of didn't have a US release anyhow), the US cards are kind of pointless unless they are cheap, or of course if you already have them.

A few games seem much more common stateside though (again Splatterhouse....)

Basically I just buy the Jp versions of everything regardless because the cost difference is made up by not having to have a US turbo for the few cheaper domestic cards + the language barrier isn't really an issue in my case.

Magical Chase has some differences from the Japanese and the US versions. The title screen uses some different colors between versions and the first level background is totally different.

Don't know if it is true but I once heard that John Madden Duo Football and It Came from the Desert were US exclusives. Anyone know if this is true?

Power League 3 isn't World Class Baseball.

Power League is World Class Baseball.

Perfectly correct. For some reason our TG-16 entry was incorrect but our PC Engine had it right.
