OK, I'm having a massive brainfart here...

inside my mame/roms folder, can I have subfolders for say each BIOS, or will I have to add a path for each folder in order for MAME to fine the roms? ClrMAME seems to not like this arrangement.

IIRC, the zipped bios files just go into the roms folder like regular games. No extra folders needed.

Right.

Let me explain myself a little better. In my roms folder I have the ROMS in folders divided by the system used. So, all the NeoGeo roms are in a folder, all the Play-Choice 10 in another, etc. It seems like MAME doesn't dig that. I'm just trying to confirm if using subfolders in the roms folder causes problems (though I think I'm answering that for myself. :()

I'm pretty sure all roms need to be in the roms folder and not in subfolders. In MAME32, you can make your groups (like by system) in the GUI, even though the roms would all still be in the same folder.

That's what I thought. Thanks!

I never had much luck getting things to work from a subfolder in the roms directory. Like the chd files get put in a subfolder, didn't work right for me. I'll figure that out sooner or later, but anyways, subfolders don't work for me.

Maybe it depends on the version of Mame? In MacMAME, I have no problem dividing my roms by alphabet. It's not such a great idea, mind you, but it works just fine where I'm concerned. So I suppose that if I were to divide, say, by platform, that shoudn't be a problem on my side.

You can have subfolders, just if you have roms\whatever and you only tell mame roms\ it won't catch it. Add all the subfolders individually and you should be ok.

I was guessing that's what needed to be done, but it seemed like too much work to me. LOL I didn't need them divided out by BIOS that baddly. That's the way I got 'em though and it seemed like an ok idea.
