I'm playing AD&D on INTV and I'm thinking "Jesus...I've forgotten how bad this thing is."
Has anybody modded an INTV to use a Jaguar controller? Do you know where to find some instructions for the mod? Is there a kit?
Googling hasn't turned up anything but rumors so I'd like to know if anybody has actually experienced the mod. I use an INTV 1...not the INTV 2 so it would be a little harder for me.

Good god, the inlays..... the mind reels.....

And the jag controller only has 8 directional impulses. the INTV has 16 discrete directions. Inty controllers are very sensitive and accurate when working properly. 8-)

Accurate but sloppy as hell.
Almost anything is better.

Yeah I made an jag controller adapter (for CV and 5200 also) but it was a ton of work. Found out later that Jay "Deathskull Labs" Tilton did the first but didn't publicize it.

Awesome! What did it end up costing in parts and how much time does the project require? (I'm no EE...yet LOL )

I find Inty controllers responsive. I can kick ass with TRON Deadly Discs (uses D-Pad, and all 16 directions) and keypad.

Lots of people hate them though. I've often suspected those with the biggest hate on have unresponsive/not fully functional controllers. When they aren't fully working, you can get bizarre frustrating matrix errors.

That is one hell of an adapter! Definitely made out of love, as there is no way that could be made profitably. X_x

Maybe $35 or $40 in parts because I found the breadboard in the trash at work. The breadboard and project case will be the most expensive things. Jay Tilton emailed me that he used four empty Combat carts and plugged them together. :)
The full adapter took me maybe 30 hours because I had to figure things out as I went along. If someone is handy with soldering, they might be able to crank out an adapter for a single system in 10 hours or so. No one else has ever built one that I know of.
"Labor of love" is right Omne :)

How ironic, I was just thinking about this adapter today. Often I've daydreamed about trying to build it but then I look at John's plans and am too intimidated to give it a try. How do you like playing Inty games with the Jag controller, John? (Awesome job you did with it, by the way.)

I really don't like Intellivision controllers. It's not because they're unresponsive, but because they are too bulky to fit in my hands, I have to cramp my fingers an odd way to get at the buttons, the fire buttons are too small, and I don't like how the disc is recessed. Makes it hard to manipulate IMO.

I'm not trying to say the Inty sucks or anything, just listing what I don't like about the controllers. I feel the same way about CV controllers, but alternates are a little easier to come by. I've been looking for Wico sticks for the Inty but haven't had much luck. It's really unfortunate because I've got a lot of great Intellivision games that I seldom play.

Heh, how nostalgic, this was actually one of my first posts on the DP boards.... like 5? 6? years ago. I think the EXACT subject title too. The adapter's hadn't been made yet though.

FWIW, I used to dislike Inty controllers. I'm right handed, and I hold the cont in my left, holding it from underneath. I use my left fingers and thumbs for button manipulation. I use my right thumb or forefinger (game dependent) for D-Disc usage. To use it, I let it rotate under my finger, and I circle it around as needed.

It actually gives me more precise control, than a Jag D-pad ever could.

All of that said, I can easily see why someone could dislike them. I use them in a way unlike any other controller. :)

Actually, I only have ONE complaint about the inty controllers. The side buttons. My thumbs have to recover for DAYS after a multihour sports session on the intellivision.
