I'm on a bit of a Star Wars kick lately, file me under consumer sucker if you wish. My friend and I have been playing lots of Rogue Leader for GC lately and I must say it is a really solid game (We just can't get anymore golds, and we only have 2 or 3 so far). I've also been playing a bit of the first one on PC.

Now, I know that there are alot of Star Wars duds out there (I personally hate the Super series for SNES) so what are some of the best Star Wars games?

There's the original Star Wars Arcade game, but unless you have an actual machine it's not really that great because of the absence of the flight yoke.

Sega's(?) Star Wars Arcade was pretty awesome, but now console games can match its graphics, so it might have lost some of its luster.

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds is a fun RTS game based off the Age of Empires Engine.

Star Wars Battlefront is an amazing game, probably my favorite of all.

Last but not least, my first Star Wars game-Death Star Battle for the Atari 400/800. Repetitive, but fun!

The X-Wing series for PC is awsome and I think it does a really good job of capturing the Star Wars feel, and I hear that Knights of the Old Republic (PC, XBox) is really good if you like RPGs, but I have yet to play it. Lego Star wars is neat as well.

Those are actually some of my favorites because they've actually stood the test of time. A lot of SW games seem to be more of tech demos for Lucasarts and the fun factor fades away pretty quickly on them (stuff like Rebel Assault).

I do like Battlefront a lot though, and I'm looking forward to part 2.

First SW games I played were the arcade Star Wars as a kid and had a blast with it, then got into playing it again on MAME.

The Super SW series on the SNES- kickass fun!

Battlefront: Pretty fun, gotta get used to the controls more if I play again.

I want to play KOTOR.

My favorite SW games:

Star Wars Triliogy for the PC (X-Wing, Tie Figher, Alliance)
Rogue Squadron III for GC
Star Wars Arcade (and also on RS 3)
Star Wars Triliogy Arcade by Sega
Rebel Assault 1 and 2 (PC, Sega CD, PSX)

i always loved playing TIE Fighter on PC -- that was wicked. Super Star Wars on the SNES has always been up there. Empire and Jedi were either too hard or too boring, but the original rocked.

My recommendations are: the platformers from the SNES (don't ask me to name them), Pod Racer on PC and Revenge of the Sith on GBA or DS (ah, old skool!).

I'm not interested in the Star Wars universe. These few games are the only ones with half-decent gameplay, IMO.

Jedi Arena on the Atari 2600. Actually, Epire Strikes back was pretty fun too.

Try out KOTOR if you have an XBOX. It's one of the most addicting RPGs I've played in a very long time.

KOTOR is excellent. Its fully set in the Star Wars universe without having anything to do with the films. Great :)

Haven't played much of any of the others. X-Wing and X-Wing vs Tie Fighter are ok and so is Pod Racer

The only flight-based Star Wars games that are any good are the Starfighter series (PS2/Xbox), which is okay, and the X-Wing/Tie Fighter series, which is bloody spectacular.

Rogue Squadron SUCKS. How are you going to do a flight sim without independent axis control? Especially in freaking space? The auto-banked turns eat my ass.

X-Wing Alliance is the best of them, but XvT, X-Wing, and Tie Fighter are all good too.

Buy a GOOD stick to use with them. I happen to like the old Thrustmaster FLCS, I dunno what gets released these days, probably garbage.

KOTOR - the best
the PC flight sim games -tie fighter - x-wing
i agree with the flight stick comment - the old thrustmasters are the best - but i don't think you can buy them new anymore

i think rouge squadron 3 on the GC looks good - i havent tried it yet

starwars arcade on the sega 32x is real good too

i hear jedi outcast is suposed to be good too - havent tried it yet either

Rogue Squadron II on GC is my favorite :) 3 coulda been good if it didn't have all those damn run-around levels (just as annoying as the run-around levels in Starfox Assault...)

Yo

Me and my kid love playing Star Wars arcade on the 32X. That has to be one of the best co op flying games for any console.

I was addicted to Dark Forces for a while after I beat doom 2.

But thats about it.

I would have to go with Star Wars trilogy ARCADE by Sega

after that would be:

Star wars Arcade original "use the force luke"

SW games on SNES I remember being blown away by the music that my beloved Snes was putting out that very merry Xmas :lovin:

KOTOR of course

and I always liked Dark forces on PSone sure it doesnt look like much now and is a very old FPS but I would luv to find another copy of this game.

Lego Star Wars is a lot of fun. Really short, but fun.

KOTOR is a lot of fun too. I have to go back to it to actually finish it (RPGs take me forever to finish, which is why I have a love/hate relationship with them), but it's definitely worth seeing. I loved getting my character to Jedi status so that I could start wielding lightsabres :)

I also like the Episode I racing games. They're nothing special as far as the racing genre goes, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Jedi Academy is awesome. :D you are really in touch with force, great stages the space train stage esp, great graphics, great mp

dismemberment (heads, torsos, hands etc),
choice btw dark and light
lifting stormtroopers up in the air with the power of the force choking them a bit and then throwing them of a ledge and hearing their screams as they plummet to their death HAW
the evil Jedi cult are really menacing and really get you into the game, taunts, fights, atmosphere
using the old Jedi mind trick for real
pushing enemies off a ledge with the force never gets old, the powers are so well done it feels as if it is an extension of your mind
multiple sabre choices even darth maul style :D

I'll never forget the first time I jumped over a stormtropers head (jedi style!) and choped his head clean off...
unfortunately I just revel in the powers of the dark side and as yet have not been to make the right choice....

Dark Forces was, in my opinion, absolutely excellent. I played through the PC version, and the amount of varied things that you can do in it is really mind boggling to me. It was one of the best when it came out, and it still holds its own.

Shadows of the Empire- N64
Rogue Squadron- N64 & GC
There are others I like too, but these are probably my most favorite.

I really liked the Star Wars trilogy for the SNES. They were dead hard at some points, but ultimately very rewarding. I tried playing them again recently, but somehow I felt they haven't stood the test of time that well...

Rogue Leader for the GameCube was also a very good shooter, with the difficulty level set just right.

KOTOR was excellent! I got so sucked into that game that I finished it in a few days :D Great characters, involving storyline and good combat system make this my personal favorite.

Galactic Battlegrounds was an ok RTS, but too much of an Age of Empires rippoff(which I never reall liked in the first place.

Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcase was pretty good as well.

I can't really remember any more off the top of my head now. Looking forward to trying out KOTOR 2 soon ;)

And I wish that Star Wars Triliogy Arcade had received a home port. Wonderfull game.

Though it's already been mentioned, The DS version of Revenge of the Sith is absolutely awesome. It's a extremely well-done beat 'em up with 3D shooting stages thrown in for good measure. The music is also excellent, as it sounds just like it was taken from the movies. It's an absolute must-own if you own a DS. The GBA version is essentially the same game, though it doesn't have the shooting stages and the music isn't nearly as good.

without a doubt KOTOR on xbox is the best SW game out there. I never enjoyed a game on my xbox besides morrowing as much as this one. Not only does it offer up solid gameplay, but it really makes you feel like you are part of a living and thriving star wars universe.

While the repetitive character models, speech, and a bit of talking, it certainly is a game worth playing. I still must buy KOTOR2, thanks for reminding me.

You can roll in Rogue Squadron. You just hold down the Z button to enable roll control.
The fact is most "non-sim" flight games have roll and pitch combined into "left turn/ right turn" by default, but most also have either "pro" controls or a separate button that decouples aileron and elevator, allowing you to roll.

You should try the game again. It's actually pretty good.

If you like retro-style Beat 'em up games, you have to play Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith for the GBA/DS. They're pretty much the same, except DS had no slowdown, better music, and X-Wing style levels between some of the beat 'em up levels.

Shadows of the Empire (N64)

Dark Forces II: Jedi Outcast (PC)

The Empire Strikes Back (Atari 2600)

Republic Commando (Xbox)

EGM has a little article about this in their latest (July) issue:

GOOD:
Battlefront
Republic Commando
KOTOR
SW Ep I: Racer
Jedi Academy
Rogue Sq II: Rogue Leader

"Disturbances in the Force": (BAD)

Ep II: Attack of the Clones (GBA)
Super Bombad Racing (PS2)
Masters of Teras Kasi (PS)

Obviously they didnt mention them all- I like Dark Forces, Starfighter, & The Arcade Game. The SNES series looked good but too damn hard. I didnt like Rebel Assault II (PS), & cant recall playing many others.

Dark Forces and Jedi Knight are absolutely amazing and the Rogue Squardron series is fun, but the best of all star wars games is the X-wing/TIE Fighter series.

Most people think X-wing Alliance to be the best but i personally think the best star wars game is and will always be X-wing vs. TIE Fighter with the ballence of power expansion. It was lacking on single player, but the multi player was the best it ever had been and the level editors for it allow you to have all the fun you could want.

Rogue Squadron was alright, given that it's a SW based flight sim ;) Lots of ground-based missions, yay. There's some crazy hidden (password) missions, i.e. CHICKEN. Heh.

It also - far as I know - had a Naboo Starfighter *before* Episode I came out. Might've been the first place the Naboo Starfighter was ever seen (or not seen, as apparently knowledge it's in there is pretty scarce).

Rebel Assault II was another game I had fun with - need to track down another copy for my PSX sometime. It's an FMV game with a difference! LOL Makes me wonder why they didn't release a SW themed lightgun - that woulda sold.

KOTOR = R0><0R

It is the definitive Star Wars game. Dark Forces is pretty good. Most of the shovelware that LucasArts ships out is crap nowadays.

Avoid "Bounty Hunter" at all costs.

But I think I may be the only one that liked the SW Galaxies Game and expansions.
I liked it. Lots of neat things to do, and the building system was extraordinary. Too much nerfing, though...you come back to find you can't use your pet, or that your house and all your items have been destroyed (I knew that was coming, but I know this must happen to people by accident) when maintenance runs out... x_X Fetch quests sorta suck, too, but setting up ambushes is more involved than in some other games. Actually, SWG has evolved (or, so I like to think, a bit degenerated) into a game about buffs and drugs before going out and fighting. Armor doesn't play nearly the role that buffs do (or at least used to). That definitely ups the cooperative aspect, though.

Namco's Star Wars game...hmm...I never really got it. Didn't play much, but what I did wasn't too impressive for me.

EPISODE III also got me into playing some STAR WARS games that I've had lying about:

ROGUE SQUADRON II and III (GC) are terrific. I never finished "Rebel Strike" but finally did this week -- the on-foot missions at least don't take very long, so overall I felt the game was still solid. My problem with it was that the difficult level WILDLY fluctuated. Unlike "Rogue Squadron II," I was nabbing Gold medals on a few levels with not much difficulty. On the other hand, you'd come to another level and STRUGGLE to even get a Bronze! Still worth playing through, with both Atari arcade coin-ops as unlockables. Great graphics and digitized clips of the films too.

SUPER STAR WARS Trilogy (SNES) -- The first game is the best, the second feels like a recycling (but is still cool), but Jedi is amazingly frustrating.

SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE (N64) -- A favorite of mine too...solid, solid stuff.

LEGO STAR WARS (Xbox/PS2) -- Really fun, well designed and animated. Short, but sweet. Speaking of which...

Whatever you do...do NOT buy the horrid, godawful EPISODE III game for the Xbox/PS2. I rented it -- it's as laughably bad as IGN said it was. Terrible graphics (that look like an old PS1 game at times!), repetitive and smplistic gameplay, and hilariously awful voice acting. I played through it in a few hours, and for me anyway it's the worst-looking Xbox game I've ever seen. The clips of the film look good -- but for $50 you can go see the movie a few times and later buy the DVD for that matter. An unbelievable cash-in by Lucasarts -- and to think it COULD have been good! Maybe we'll get another one some day...

My favorites are:

SW Trilogy Arcade (arcade, duh)
Star Wars: Demolition (DC)-I guess I'm the only one who liked this?
Tie Fighter (PC)
X-Wing Alliance(PC)- Especially with the new ship model upgrades, this game looks bad ass!
Dark Forces Series (PC)
Republic Commando (PC)
Force Commander (PC)- Yeah, yeah, say what you will but the sensitive camera didn't bother me at all.

Sounds like I'm the only one who didn't like KOTOR as well. I just couldn't get into it. It didn't feel like a Star Wars game. Oh well.

jedi power battles (DC) : I remember this being very bland and buggy but it was just plane fun deflecting lasers and smashing up droids. I never understood the bosses, but I loved the music.

I loved this for similar reasons I liked enter the matrix.

Shaddow of the empire (N64) this game was surreal there was so much wrong with it. It gave me a really funny feeling playing it probably due to the bad graphics and excesive fog. But it surreal difficulty made it a challenge I wanted to beat.

All of the flying games seem to blair into one game to me its all very samey,

Here are some of my favorites.....

Star Wars: The Arcade Game- Very addicting, and has that fun Star-Wars feel.

Star Wars Episode 1 Podracer- Fun and addicting game, one of the first I played for Nintendo 64.

Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic- WOW. One of my favorite RPG's out there, and definitely the best RPG on Xbox. Very addicting....

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith- Fun little game, I rented it a while ago, pretty addicting.

Star Wars: Starfigher- Very immersive game, you really feel like you are spinning around when playing it. Very fun...
