Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone knew what happened to the .PDF game lists on digitalpress?

I used to find them by going to http://www.digitpress.com/lists/

Now it seems that they were all overwritten, and are all the same size - the files are gone??

Im just asking as I found them very useful to print off and tick off what I had in my collection!

Does anyone have copies of these files?

Thats where one of us comes in and says... Buy the Guides today!!!!!! Lovely and printed on this stuff called paper, with checklists and all that good stuff. The online guide is a little more up to date and all, but the guide is a nice piece of work to have.

I didnt think that the .pdf's were updated as often as the actual lists were, and since the database has gone online, the layout that us editors use is a little different than it used to be, so i'm not even sure that it will/would show right in a PDF without a new template being made for it.

Ok,

Well, I would buy the guide, but unfortunately I do not live in the USA, so the shipping cost for a huge guide is just too high

@_@

I suppose I will have to collate my own PDF lists..

Thank you for your help

The shipping isn't that bad really (the currently weak dollar makes things a bit better aswell), but the main problem with the guides for a PAL collector is that they mainly list only US releases, with just a smattering of non-US games.

I wish I had the time to maintain a live online guide, a printed book, updated PDF files, PDA text files, and database-ready delimited files.

But I do not.

As such, I focus on the priorities: the online guide and the continuing improvement of the content for the next edition of the book.

Until I can retire from my day job, that's the most you're going to get. FREE up-to-date and at your fingertips online data and quality printed material. Sorry if that isn't enough.

Wouldn't the time you would invest in that be worth a little something? You would probably be better off working a few hours overtime to get the money for the guide, or ebaying a few games.

Ideally, one could find tools to turn database info straight into a PDF. The problems with it though are time and money... The plus would be that you could run essentially a custom "report" from the database and make a PDF out of it. But like Joe inferred, "only so much time in a day".

On the other hand, if anyone knew of any open source tools (i.e. no cost, and no research finding it) that could take a database/web connection and make a PDF out of it (probably XML -> PDF, assuming the DP database can export to XML), that would be a big step in that direction, maybe. :-)

could just do a good old fashion copy and paste in to you fave text program, then convert in to PDF.

It's a bummer Joe can't keep the PDF lists up. I own the guides, but the PDFs were convenient so I didn't have to mark up my book, and also because I can take a few lists to the flea market to check what I already have without the vendors really getting to suspicious or figuring out how to get their own DP guide and overcharge me.

However, you can still usethe online guide to generate lists, it's just more difficult since it is paged out, and there's no check boxes.

Bring back the PDF's, seriously.

If it were not for the Digital Press PDF lists, I would not have been able to compile this data base: http://www.consolecity.com/games.php?system_id=16&genre_id=&sort=title_&limit=25&region_array=a%3A0%3A%7B%7D&action=&search_id=

Digital Press' PDFs are great. The actual guides are great too, but the PDF files are so convient to have in a digital format. The online rarity guide is good too, but it's always down, and it's not ordered well, and it doesn't have enough options to make it convient.

Seriously.... its not gonna happen.... Not right now. To much work is involved in getting this to happen. There are just a few to many lists to make sure all fit into a template that would accept everything. The PS list that I run alone has over 4000 entries on it. The people that run the back end of this site have and are busy enough making sure the site stays running, that the database is happy, and that these forums are working as well as they can. We've all got day jobs, this is done out of love and open time, of which we opperate with a very finite amount (open time, not love, we've got plenty of love for all).

Until then, get a book (which is MORE than worth it) and use the online guide. Hell... You could spend a little time typing up or even copy pasting out the game lists for some of the systems your looking for into a word or excel file. If i'm capable of making my own little anal detailed PS list (along with every other system I own games for which contains 1700+ title listings at the moment) you all can too.

What in the world do you need a list for?

There's only one of me. And not that many third-party accessories that are compatible with me.

But I do thank you for your interest.

How are you able to compile a database from the PDF's but not from the current online listings? They both contain the same basic information, and there's a lot more extra detail in the online lists.
Put some effort and do it yourself rather than demanding that other people do it for you.

But everyone wants a little PDF of their very own. I specifically want one with Kung FU action ax handling hands.

So what's this talk of Joe "maintaining" you? Is there something going on behind the green door I don't know about? :hmm:

Ooh, ooh! I saw a Beach Bikini PDF at the flea market this weekend, but the vendor said he wouldn't sell it to me until he could see how much it's going for on ebay. Damn him! I'm sure it's at least an R69!

There's only one little PDF in this room, and he's part of the complete boxed set. Ain't goin' nowheres. Won't break up the set for love or money! Well. Maybe love. Actually, make that lust. Accompanied to the right amount of money.

So you're using our database to build your own database with no actual reference back to the source you got that from.

How do you think I feel about that?
