OK, I consider myself a pretty down to earth guy who does not spend more than I can afford. However it sometimes happen that I see something being posted by someone on this forum - usually a news or upcoming game - and end up wanting/buying the thing which I "know" I won't need or discard a few days after it arrives.

Exemple - someone posting a news on SNK releasing a Neo Geo stick for the PS2... well I do not need it but I'll end up buying it.
Or someone posting a thread about the NEC PC-FX (*wink* *wink*) and I'll be all around looking for a PC-FX system.

So how often do YOU end up buying something you do not need just because someone else posted a thread about it?

I've picked up a couple of titles because of praise that it recieved here on DP. Just off the top of my head, I picked up Road Trip for the PS2 after reading the sleeper of the week thread. DP is a good place to hear comments on rather obsure or low print games.

I'll do it sometimes. Mainly I do it with games that I'm unsure of, but have a slight interest in, and if a bunch of people here are screaming about it I'll get it because I trust the DP'ers more than online/magazine reviews.

I most likely wouldn't have given Katamari Damacy a second look hadn't it been for the glowing praise here at DP.

I bought Faxanadu because a lot of people here swear by it, but I ended up not liking it too much. In the print version of DP many years ago, there was a list called the Top 75 Games You Might Have Missed (I believe). I think I bought all of the NES games on the list and enjoyed every one of them (especially Rygar). So I guess it can go either way.

I have this place to thank for leading me to Tron 2.0 for the GBA, Pac-Man Vs., Katamari Damacy...so...yeah, a few times a year, it happens. Because I know quite a few of the folks on here, and what their tastes are like and how they overlap with my gaming preferences, so I've learned to trust the opinions of quite a few people on here.

well I have bought R4-R5 games often just because the rarity guide said thats how rare they are. Despite knowing that I will never play the game, I still buy it because of that little number in the DP guide.

well when I first found DP on the net I went a little crazy probably bought around 50 games in 3 months or more I can't really remember. I'll I remember is searching through the forums finding all these great games I had missed out on. Now I'm probably down to one a month. Most magazine reviews aren't much help to me so if DPers are raving about a game I'll normally go and pick it up.

I remember one instance in particular... a member named Maneki Neko (don't see him around these days as much) posted about a title on Saturn named SONIC COUNCIL the obscure 2D import fighter.

I always wanted it but never found out its title until Maneki posted on it.

Speaking of the SEGA Saturn... bet all 'cha Saturn owners can't read this topic here without at least adding one more want to the ole list:

I dare ya.... take a look.... and hold on to your wallets ;)

There's a reason you don't see him, but we won't get into that. ;)

And PDF, I'll take that Maseta you sent me a while back as a 'thank you' for telling you about Tron 2.0 GBA. ;)

As for myself? Sure, I'll buy games if I see it mentioned on here and it sounds interesting. Or a lot of people are raving about it. Atari Anthology for the PS2 is the last game I've bought based on this site, last month.

If I find something and it looks rare, I usually check the Guides and if its worth it I'll buy it. other titles that receive praise here I pick up over time also.

Usually, I have everything set and know what I want or don't want. However I tend to pick up the "sleeper of the week" since they are usually accessible and cheap.

Not too much, I have purcahsed a couple of games from DP members.

And then today with that $5 n gage sale.

Other then that I'll get something about 4 times a year.

I buy things because of DP quite a bit, but it varies. If I find some stuff at the Goodwill or similar stores, I usually get it if its in good condition and above a R4. Because of that damn TRU 70-90% off sale I dont have as much cash as I would have if I wouldnt have bought basically every game there.... :\

I've only been here a week or so, therefore I've yet to buy anything due to a mention here, but I've done it many times whilst browsing Rllmuk & NTSC-uk. I've often picked up the odd game or two that would've completely slipped past me had I not read about it on the forums.

I can see this forum/site costing me many of the Queens English Pounds...

It happens from time to time. Usually when I'm on the hunt I'll see a title and think "Hey, so-and-so mentioned on DP that this was a good game" and I'll probably pick it up.

Right now, I'm resisting the urge of the 32X thread LOL

It's not that buy that much special games just because of the Digitpress Forum but I like to ask here for advice about buying games I haven't heard of. Still I buy more games since I came here. Mainly because the collector in me has awaken but also because reading/posting about games make me play and buy more.

Twice because of the Guide. I bought an SMS and Phantasy Star simply to play that one game. I also briefly collected Atari 7800 due to the comment "it's the console that could have beaten Nintendo." Frankly, I was disappointed and sold it.

I got Katamari just beacuse of the reviews I read here. Well, that and the $20 price :)

I also got into Treasure games - due to a combination of DP and a great article in Retro Gamer magazine. It led me to pick up a copy of Ikaruga off of ebay - and I love it. My normal thing with shooters is to cheat with some sort of game genie type device, play it all the way through once, and forget it. Ikaruga makes me want to practice and get better.

Well as an example- after reading this topic I want to try a few games I might not have cared about 2 minutes ago! It's one of the many reasons I've been stuck on these boards for a long time.

Well, considering I've been heavily involved in gaming message boards and sites since I was 16, it's hard to determine what I still hadn't heard of prior to joining this board. And even before I got online, I had learned of plenty of games to keeping my eyes out for just from magazines and such.

However, I know I definitely wouldn't have bought that complete copy of Mountain Bike Rally I found last summer if I hadn't heard people talking about it here (I recall a big fuss about a copy with just the box selling for $70 on eBay). I'm sure the board had some influence on my decision to buy a bunch of Sega CD games before I even had the system. A few months ago I bought Raystorm which I had been waiting to get a good deal on eBay for after the fact that the game has an R7 got me interested in acquiring it.

All the time. I've never been let down by something recommended by a poster here that I thought would be good. My gamin' tastes seem to be in line with Maxlord's and Dire51's, among other people, so anything they promote = I'll take a serious look at it.

My final word is emulation, of course, when it's available. I always have some concerns about whether games that are being hyped up are going to measure up for me, but I haven't felt left down.

Everybody else...well, I ignore if it if doesn't interest me. Sega CD? Naw, just Mega CD. Saturn? I'm going Japanese-only.

for me i would say it only happens a couple times a year. i usually know about most of the games that would interest me. the things i find out about here and want to buy are usually rather rare and i can only find them or afford them every now and then.

i wonder if the topics hear ever have the opposite affect on a person. i mean do you ever see a game get bashed here and then decide you dont want to try it out.

I routinely discover must-have classics (and modern releases) by listening to the buzz here on DP. Alundra, Katamari Damacy, Armored Core, and lots of other gems are things that I learned about here first.

I've certainly bought other games apart from the buzz here, but this place is my most trustworthy source of gaming goodness.

Yes I have picked up a couple games becuase of the DP boards.

I like that there are such a variety of gamers here.

To be honest there are very few games that are mentioned here at DP that I havent played or at least heard of or even owned at one time or another other than imports.

I plan on getting many Gamecube games that have been talked about on here that I would not have gotten otherwise like Animal Crossing etc.

Also I tried advanced wars GBA EMU only becuase of some posts here at DP and CANNOT WAIT for the Gamecube version ;)
