I have a SNES/SFC copier called the Special Partner.. I've had it for years (I picked it up at a thrift) - and all this time I assumed that the 2 slots on the top of it were for either SNES or SFC games, but tonight I (finally!) noticed that the left slot is a 64 pin slot... :hmm:

I have been unable to find anything about this machine in a usual web search - Hopefully someone here has knowledge of these things and can give me some info...

The only thing I could see is that it may also be a Genesis/MD copier and I don't have all the necessary parts...

Super Famicom Partner (http://www.robwebb.clara.co.uk/backup/hispeed/hispeedscomt.html)

According to that page it is an expansion slot that is the same size as a 8-bit Famicom connector (but isn't compatible with the Famicom)

My guess is it was meant for optional expansion boards for games that required extra chips (FX, DSP, etc.) It's possible nothing was ever made for it.

Thanks - the only pages I have been able to find are old "for sale" messages...

The 2nd slot is actually 4 pins bigger than a Famicom slot... odd, to say the least. From the writeup on that page, it seems like he is speculating what it could be used for.

The unit I have does in fact play Mario Kart, but many of the newer cartridges detect the device and refuse to play in it. It also caused me great heartache a few years ago when I lazily put my Super Metroid cart in to play, without removing the Special Partner from the unit and it erased my save at Ridley...
