I recently purchased a copy of Tetris on the Genesis. How could I check it's authenticity? Cheers!. ;)

Simple answer : it's not a genuine release.

Tetris was never released for the Genesis. It was produced for the Japanese Megadrive, but was pulled before it even got the shops, for copyright reasons. That is, Sega didn't have the copyright and the holder objected to their selling the game.

A few copies were stashed away by Sega employees and there are appoximately 5 or 6 known copies of it in existance - and they go for several thousand dollars apiece, if they ever get sold.

A Hong Kong / Asian pirate version was produced and, although somewhat scarce, is not exactly 'rare'. Even though dojar is attempting to sell one for £100 on ebay ...

The pirate version comes in a box, but a manual was not produced. It has some kind of title on the front in Japanese text, and a barcode on the back of the box, but no further information on it.

Was it off ebay.com.au ? I saw a tetris bootleg last week, and had the opening bid been lower i might have tried for it- a bootleg of a valuable oddity is still an oddity :)

6 hours to go and an opening bid of $29.99 Au.
The last line of the auction has me thinking it will most likely not end at its scheduled time LOL

eep. and to think... i gave my boxed bootleg away, lol! the funny thing is, some tengen md games have an advertisement for tetris in the manual, which may lead some folks to think the game made it to retailers. from what i remember, it's a really well done version of tetris, too...
