Yes, that's right. Bomberman.... the guy who uses explosives for tasks as simple as scratching his back, is an environmentalist. Atleast the Mega version anyway..

Mega Bomberman is.... a great game. It's my favorite Bomerman game, probably because it was the first Bomberman game I ever played. Sure, bomberman games are really about the competitive multiplayer mode to me.. but the adventure modes are great too. Interesting enemies.. neat level designs.. and sometimes there are things you just can't figure out about the choice of graphics....

Now... onto the "environmentalist" part. As I'm sure everyone knows, there are 2 types of blocks in Bomberman games. Soft blocks: which you can blow up. And hard blocks: which are indestructible. And depending on which world you are on, the blocks will match with a certain theme. And usually the soft and hard blocks will share some simililarity, depending upon the theme. Well that didn't seem to be so the first time I played the underwater world.

You see on the underwater level, the hard blocks are some sort of sea shell and the soft blocks are... well, at first I had no clue as to what they were supposed to be. But when I was playing Mega Bomberman lastnight it hit me. I had always jokingly thought that they looked like crushed soda cans(more specifically, crushed Coke cans)... but that's exactly what they are. They couldn't be anything else.. they are cans. But... at the bottom of the ocean? Why? One word: Pollution. I guess this was Hudson's way to complain about people littering our oceans.

But how does this make Bomberman an environmentalist, you say? Well simple.. he blows them up. He's cleaning up the enviorment. You can't make it out of any of the levels without blowing up some soft blocks...(unless you have that lame item where you walk over soft blocks) And most people find it best to blow up all the soft blocks before progressing, so they can get items.

So there you have it... Bomberman the environmentalist. Cleaning up the bottom of our seas, one can at a time....with, uh,.. bombs...

God bless you, man with bombs.

So Bomberman is blowing up trash in the sea making more trash, killing our coral reefs in the process. I am calling greenpeace on his little blue ass right now.

Hey, it's the thought that counts.

This is worth researching. For example, precisely how is it that Bomberman is able to light his bombs underwater? Eco-terrorists everywhere would love to know...

Now come on... That's not worth examining. I swear I was just about to rant on and on, about using bombs underwater but that would be a waste of time(I've got more important things to complain about). The answer is simple: Specially designed, under-water bombs with water resistant fuses...etc.

I think my favorite Bomberman of all time was Bomberman '94 for Turbo Grafx. It was like the original Bomberman, but had different worlds you traveled to and mine carts you ride. There were also hidden animals you could find and use.

Mega Bomberman is the same thing as Bomberman '94, but renamed and ported over to the Mega Drive/Genesis.

I saw the screenshots for the Turbo Grafx one, and I thought they were similar... but I never played it.

This was the first Bomberman game I played... it was long ago... when I had the Sega Channel. Oh what a glorious summer that was.

a tad off subject, but i hear there is supposedly a vacation isle around the gulf of mexico that if you look down from a low-flying plane - you can see a "reef" around the land made entirely out of tourist beer cans.

I'll put on my cute little suit with the ball attached to the head... then we'll kick some ass.

I applaud you for the thought you've put into the matter, Veepa. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

And yes, although using bombs to destroy trash would likely do more harm to the ocean than good, I'd like to think you're on to something about the principle of the matter (That the presence of crushed coke cans at the bottom of the ocean i an example of social criticism, while the destructive nature of using bombs is to be taken with a grain of salt since the whole game is based around blowing everything up).
