View Full Version : Am I the only one psyched about the 360?

It appears that a lot of people don't seem to grasp the 360 the way I do. Most are either comparing it a PC (ok... original xbox here... been there done that..) griping it's too early for another console release and then all the complaints about the extras that you can do just as well on a PC.
I don't even have a Xbox... or GC... or PS2 for that matter... with the Dreamcast being my last main console that I still have, just for the record.
For the first time in a long time I feel I have something to look forward to. I actually feel excited about getting a console!
The first one was the Atari (2600/7800) I couldn't wait to get that baby! The longest wait with the most desire!
My very first games console!
Then the NES... waited and waited and finally got one!
Welcome to Jaguar.... god I wanted one but knew my parents couldn't afford one ... but to my surprise they did....
Passed up the Dreamcast initially but finally "caught on" to it and have been hooked since....
PS2 had the GTA series I loved so much... but it started to get little play and it went the way of the door.
xbox/gc never really got my attention. The demos I played for the original xbox was crappy imo... and the GC well... I just didn't like sunshine...
Xbox has evolved into a very good platform... but I think the 360 is going to push the boundries all-around this time.
I feel the timing is perfect... the hardware is dead on and the people are ready.... MS is aware of what it's getting into and there's so many little extras the package is appealing, complete and overal just done very well.
Take this from a person that doesn't exactly care so much about Microsoft in the first place... but that's with the OS world. *I do have a Mac :) and some PC parts LOL )
Anyways... any other 360 followers here that's as psyched about it as I am? Screw live gold... I want Live Platinum! :vamp:

Join the discussion, then (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=61086). If that topic's still the official one; it was de-stickied.
As for me...not really. There are lots of great Xbox games out right now, but I fear not enough of them will be playable on the 360 - however snazzy the dynamic recompilation may be.
No integrated hard drive (though hopefully the games will all be programmed to make use of one if it's plugged in...also, if the hard drive dies, I guess you'll have an easy time of replacing it), and it won't be the most powerful console. If that holds true, Microsoft is sunk in my eyes. That was really the key thing that let Microsoft take its share of the market - the console was the most powerful by a fair bit, especially out of the top two contenders.

No integrated hard drive.........
Huh? What do you mean?
If your referring to the 360 then it is suppoesd to ship with a 20GB drive....

I've been told you buy it seperately. It's not integrated, I know that much.

from 1up.com :
"To enable media cross-pollination, the Xbox 360 will ship with a removable factory-standard 20GB hard drive (about twice the size of the first Xbox drive). When asked about the rampant rumors of different Xbox 360 SKUs, some offering a barebones package sans hard drive, J Allard was adamant about their currently strategy, but left it up in the air for future post-launch iterations of the system. "Who knows? We talk to retailers, we start taking orders, Japan says, 'What we really wanna do is have a 60-gig hard drive and a wired controller,' something like that. The system's so flexible that until we start stuffing them in boxes, nothing's for sure. But we wanted to be flexible worldwide, so current thinking is we have one worldwide offering. So far retailers and marketing all agree that that's the right base configuration for launch. And then it's probably not until the next holiday that we start mixing it up. But we never say never."

Well, okay. Hard drives are good...very good. Except when they die.

I take it you've had very bad luck with hard drives in your past? heh....
I bet my iMac is on 90% of the time over the past 3 years I've had it now and I've never ran into any problems (mind you I've also had MANY blackouts (I know of at least a good 10)) and the drive is still alive and not sounding loud....
I think the portability side of the drive snapping off could prove to be dangerous but if you don't move your system or HD around a lot you shouldn't have a problem.

The 360 got my interest if only for the fact that Microsoft looked at what gamers were doing with their systems and used that into thier new design.
So from the start they have won some points over Sony and Nintendo.
But a 360 in my future is a long time coming...i dont even own a PS2 or XBOX.

Am I the only one psyched about the 360?
It appears that a lot of people don't seem to grasp the 360 the way I do.
Well.. in what way? Aside from talking about other past consoles you bought excitedly you never really said what exactly it was about the 360 that you're looking forward to.
Me.. well, let me put it this way. I pretty much buy most every console by default. Ever since the NES vs. SMS days I've just been that way. But as I've said in another post, I'm not excited about any of the new consoles. Will I buy them? Sure. Am I "excited" about them? No... no, not really.
As I like to say, there's only so much enthusiasm I feel by the increasing number of detail in the hairs of a mustache in the opponent in yet another FPS. LOL I think at this point in time I think we've just sort of hit a wall as far as hardware and graphics capabilities go.. there's nothing mind blowing. The specs just get gradually and incrementally better... but it's not like before where it's such an amazing and stark difference. It's just tiny incremental improvements and that is ho hum. -_- End of story.
Yeah I'll get an xbox next (or 360.. whatever). It'll go nice with my Nintendo revolution and ps3. But man am I looking forward to the next REAL jump in gaming technology... I don't know what it is.. but it sure isn't this new batch.

Good point NE146 LOL
Well... the first thing that sold me was the built-in NEON/VLM like program. People keep going on and on that It's already on the PC in Winamp or something... or just use a NUON.
Well, I don't have a NUON and I'm not about to hook my Mac up to my 53" HD just for some widescreen visualizations :)
I love the idea, for the first time?, to have photos available on the hard drive and other video / media files available for me to access at any time through my tv for whatever reason.
I love the hours played status on the digital gamers card. It's already done on the PC but for it to be on a console is very cool!
Ghost Recon 3 looks awesome! And I just seen some screenshots of Perfect Dark which look super sharp!
Everyone keeps saying " I don't see a difference or the difference is so minimal it doesn't matter". Well, I disagree.
But, I guess it's all an opinion anyways. I keep hearing "I'm going to get the revolution" but there aren't even any friggin shots of Revolution games right now so I don't get it?
I can clearly see a difference. It's not all about the details either it's just the 360 seems like a super diverse system to me and I like it. It's like being open minded :) I also like the people behind it (for the most part).
Being an Atari and Sega fan probably doesn't help things much. Did you hear J. Allard's speech? Very well done... it adds to the people with past and personality is working on the project and gives me a warm feeling (such as Minter working on the NEON part of it does..)....
The interface so far looks excellent. Great crisp and clean look while maintaining complete control and ease of use.
I'm not saying the PS3 or Revolution isn't going to have great games (some of which may be better or exceed those on the 360) but I'm not as excited about those 2 as I am with the 360. Maybe I've just seen so much more stuff ready for it oppose to what has been shown by Sony and Nintendo and that's why I like it as much as I do so far.
Anyways... that's my thoughts... opinions so far....

I really am not impressed by the 360, after seeing and reading about the presenation that was on MTV, it seems microsoft is trying their best at making a flashy advertisement for something that could completely bomb. I suppose the time for a decision will come when all three nextgen consoles are going to be out for comparison.

and the GC well... I just didn't like sunshine...
You didn't like one game, so you discarded the entire viability of the system? You're missing out, my friend.
