View Full Version : 2600 fans: Is Springer impossible?

I'm convinced that it is. I can't beat the first round because it appears to be literally impossible to reach some of the platforms leading to the top of the screen. Is there a secret to doing this or can the game just not be beaten?

I've always had trouble with Springer, I think the problem is the audience woofing and the bodyguards holding me back.

I am POSITIVE that I've gotten past the first screen but I remember thinking the same thing. Please don't make me play this again. :/

yes Springer is BAD and so is River Patrol.

There is a reason these 2 are rare. They suck !!

I've played worse games than Springer - and MUCH worse games than River Patrol (which I don't think is all that bad, frankly). They're not rare because they suck - they're rare because they were released as the Atari 2600 was hitting the skids. I remember seeing Springer appear *for the first time* in the discount bins at K-Bee Toys. Did I pick 'em all up? That's a story for another thread. :(

I read about your story about how you bailed on springer, and picked up a few more keystone kapers instead, at a kay bee toys markdown bin.

It's not the 2600's fault on this one. Springer is just as bad and impossible on the 400/800. I could never pass the first board more than a few times.

You think River Patrol is bad? I think it's pretty fun and a good game (but not the best).

Maybee we need a 10 worst Atari 2600 games thread.

Personally Springer is in my top ten and
River Patrol is in my top five if not THE worst.

I still think the limited play value contibuted to low production numbers and in turn a couple of rare games.

OK, after repeated attempts I FINALLY managed to finish the first round in Springer. It turns out that you've got to run off the platform near the top of the screen and jump just before you fall. It's doubly frustrating because not only is this excruciatingly tough to do, there's a very good chance you'll still have the jump button held down by the time you reach the next platform, and Springer will spring off it and fall to his death. I can't think of another rabbit more deserving of death than this blocky bunny, but it would be nice if he could finish a round or two of the game before kicking the bucket.
So yeah Joe, you dodged a bullet on this one... you won't have to go back and play Springer. I don't think I'll be going back to it either... >:(
