Doesn't matter where you come from but remember you're only getting $500 worth of expenses covered. So it may still cost a little out of pocket if you're coming from afar, but this will greatly lighten your expense from just about anywhere in the world.

There will be a second drawing... I just don't want to open it up until the first is over so that folks can get a shot at entering again. Look for the second entry later Sunday or early Monday (by EDT standards).

Well,
According to XE.com, $500US = $275.48 GBP.
And according to the Expedia UK site, the cheapest round-trip between London (LGW) & San Francisco (SFO), leaving Aug 18 and returning Aug 23, is 633.70 GBP.

So, at today's exchange rate and prices, the contest would cover about 43% of the airfare. Not a small prize, but, yeah, you'd need your own chunk of change to supplement it.

Of course, I have no idea where in the UK you are in real life, the exchange rate could change tomorrow if President asshole decides he's pissed at soem European somewhere and starts another bullshit war to boost his approval ratings, and the airfare could change with the winds, so this is all just mental masturbation so far.

But maybe it will give you some idea of what's what.

Personally, I'm going to be in round two. I'm in the US, so the airfare presumably won't be as steep for me, and there's a very good chance this will make my "help another DP'er go to CGE" streak keep riding one more year! :D

If you feel that way then I'd suggest you don't join the next entry group. Sorry, I do my best to accomodate everyone. This process strikes the best balance between low cost entry and high result savings, but no system is perfect. Especially one that we devise.

I was actually thinking about that before the drawing.I would love to do something for those who entered and helped me to go. So my idea is this. An offer to photograph the Expo. The entire deal. Every booth, as many people as I can find. Everything. Now, bear in mind that I am a pretty mediocre photographer, but I would love to do it and I think otheres would like to see it.
