Alright, so I know that VIC-20 tapes are not covered in the DP Guide. I am curious about them, though.
First: Is there anyone out there that collects tapes for the VIC?
Second: Are there any tapes (except for prototypes, etc.) that are worth anything? Is there a certain publisher/developer whose tapes are valuable?
Third: Does anyone know of any rarity lists for tapes?

If you haven't been there yet, I recommend you take a look at Ward and Paul's Digital Archaeology site (http://www.digitpress.com/the_digs/vic20/) which resides here in DP. I know there's a pretty good cassette list somewhere down there.
As for rarity list, I don't think I've ever seen one, nor heard of any really valuable games. Again, not very valuable but I do have a soft spot for Ultimate Play The Game and Llamasoft games.
Mayhem is really the one that should tell you about this game but Ultima: Escape from Mount Drash (http://www.mayhem64.co.uk/photos/photos46.htm) is one of the most rare / expensive / Vic20 / tape / Ultima related games you can find.

Mount Drash. Oo yes. Thanks for reminding that one. :D

What $2,600 will get you...! X_x

Apart from that, I can't think of any Vic20 tape game that goes for that much. Maybe a couple of Jeff Minter's really obscure early titles (Blitzkrieg, Defenda etc).
There IS a project going on, eloquently dubbed GB20 by myself, that is doing for the Vic20 what GB64 did for the C64 in terms of recording every game ever released for the machine. Currently running just over 1,000 entries but there's plenty more left to go me thinks.
