I'm a little bit amazed that I actually played a game with too much color. Normally, I'm the type of gamer that totally embraces games with mucho color. I mean, I'm Mr. RGB Fanatic, and typically games that are very colorful usually become a damn near religious experience on RGB monitors.

But I think I've finally found a game that just has too much damn color for it's own good.

Zool 2 for the Atari Jaguar.

I don't know, maybe it's just the frenetic game play and wacked out music that is making me think it has too much color. Or just the artistic style of the game with so much weird stuff on the screen at one time.

I don't know. But I'm thinking that this might actually be a game with too much damn color on the screen at one time.

Can you think of any other games that actually take the whole color thing too far?

too much color? no way.. maybe you have your color saturation set to high on your tv/beamer/whatever?? looking at Zool 2 screens i must say it doesn't look too colorfull to me, especially compared to some Jeff Minter games...

Zool is very colourful but not too much colour. There is only one game i've played that has had too much colour - Spheres Of Chaos

You can never have too much color, I think Zool's problem is that it was just gaudy. You know, there's a reason people study art, figure out compliments, tones and contrasts and all that. Otherwise you get random noisy splashes of paint on the canvas- or Zool.

Yar's Revenge. Do you know how many times my pupils exploded every time I destroyed the Qotile? LOL

Kolibri felt a bit overdone in the color department hehe. So much color abounding everywhere it was rather hard to see A) yourself, B) your enemies and C) enemies'/your shots. That and it was hard to discern actual game objects from the background.

Motor Toon Gran Prix is a epileptic seizure waiting to happen. I couldn't play it for more than 4 minutes last night.

Pretty much anything Sonic Team makes is very colorful.

Nights, Sonic Adventure series, Phantasy Star Online, etc.

Fantasy Zone,

Just about all ports of this I have played I felt were overdone in the color department. And it causes the enemy shots to always be hard to see as well.

Damn pretty to look at though!

Link doesn't work. Anyway, I did an image search (http://search.msn.com/images/results.aspx?FORM=MSNH&q=Spheres+Of+Chaos+) for it... He's right.
EDIT: Found the guy that made it. (http://www.spheresofchaos.com/)

Tempo for 32x comes to mind. I remember reading a review where the guy said it looked like mario on acid.

Dynamite Headdy is walkin' the line. Really, though, I can't think of any games with too much color...though a lot of older arcade games have stunning sideart.

I know this might sound nitpicking, but it's as Bratwurst said - this is hard to answer because generally speaking the problems are in selecting from a limited palette, not having too many colors. Heck, even Splinter Cell on the PC could use more colors and shades at times.

James Pond II also has lots of colors.

PS2 seems to harbor extremely colorful games; Magic Pengel (and it's sequel), Choro Q and Unlimited Saga all come to mind. Jet Set Radio for Xbox also had an exorbitant amount of color, especially on the character's clothing; lime green/sky blue/yellow/pink ensemble, anybody? LOL

Hmm

Fantasy Zone does have quite a bit of color but the pastel hues sort of make it a little subdued. Now Tempo on the other hand is just blaring rainbow color that almost hurts.

Going back to the atari 2600 remember the scan line color shifting like in Turmoil. That was cool for like the first day you saw it but got old really fast.

Another solution for 2600 games is to flip to B&W display (on games that support it). LOL

Bit late to the thread here, but just wanted to say: 1) Spheres of Chaos is fuggin' awesome, and 2) Anyone nominating Fantasy Zone is fuggin' crazy.

Speaking of scan line color shifting, has anyone played This Planet Sucks for the 2600? I think there's way too much color there.

I remember the first few TMNT games for the NES being extremely.. bright.. but maybe that's my faulty memory.
