View Full Version : Do you see yourself ever *completely* distanced from gaming?

Sorry if this topic has been done 100 times in the past... but I was just curious. I'm talking like video games (of any sort, any generation) not even being a blimp in your life.
Personally I can't... I know when I start a family yes obviously game time and game interest will dip, and yes, when I'm 50 I'm sure I won't be playing these games like I used to... but *completely utterly* detached? Can't see it...
But then again, who knows? Life is unpredictable...

There was a long period in my life when I didn't game... at all... now that I've made such a serious investment (money/time), I'm not sure that I could just walk away from it. Interesting question.

Only when I'm dead and buried.....even then, I might have a Saturn buried with me so you never know. LOL

Gaming's the only thing i really know. I never plan on giving it up. I plan on using it to turn a profit.
I may not have much time to play games at the moment, but that doesn't mean my collection isn't growing by 7-8 titles every 2 weeks.

I can't imagine that I ever stop gaming. I've noticed that I don't have enough time and/or patience to play for hours or even days, but I still feel the urge to play videogames from time to time. I see no single reason why this should stop, even if the newer consoles in 2020 should be to modern for me I would still have my old-school consoles and all the games.

I don't see myself ever quitting. I have too many games I haven't beaten that even if I stopped buying them, I'd be busy for years.

I will probably be gaming for the rest of my life.

Well, I plan to start working in the video-games industry after I finish uni, so I guess games will always be a major part of my life, either as a profession or a hobby.
But in recent years, I don't find myself getting as excited about games as I used to. It might be because of the current state of the gaming indusrty, or simply because that dread "real life" has made me less care-free than I used to be. All I ever play these days are a few quick Street Fighter III (PS2) matches with my cousin, and although I've been planning to play and finish many games for almost a year now, with work and studies distracting me I never seem to have the peace of mind or time to do so...
I suppose its probably just another phase I'm going through. When I get back into it, I'll probably lock myself up in my room, disregard secondary needs such as sleep, food and direct sunlight, and game on until my eyes bleed. Ah, good times :D

no. lord knows i've tried. LOL
dunno, i think we're getting to the point where it's actually going to be harder to avoid gaming in the next generations of hardware, simply because it truly is becoming powerful enough to be a viable entertainment outlet for the masses, on the levels of movies/TV.
enough people have grown up on it, and the visuals and production values are becoming impressive enough to even sway those who have avoided console gaming altogether, and draw them into the fold.
peter jackson seems to think the future of entertainment is interactivity, and i think things are finally getting to a point where this will prove to be true on a large scale. maybe not this generation of hardware, but quite possibly the next, i think we're going to see the lines between movie & game truly begin to blur.

I've tried once during 2000, that lasted 3 months, then the JPN Saturn imports arrived LOL i've been screwed ever since.
I promised myself this year that I could be able to climb back to the top of this, without spending a whole lot, yet with temptation surrounded all around me (GameCrazy employee). It's hard as hell to focus :(

Never,
Even if I sold off my collection (which I would never do unless I have a wife that makes me), I would keep my NES, SNES and N64.

Good grief... don't know how many times I've seen some form of the "newly married... wife said either the games or me" on an eBay auction. You would think that would have been something that was discussed before the wedding.

I really don't see this happening with me. I may be less obsessed with games than I am know. I may sell some of my collection to save space and money. But I'm pretty confident in saying that if you give me a system with a castlevania game in it when I'm 60 I'm going to have a good time.

There hasn't been a week sense I was 10 that I wasn't playing some video game. during the arcade and C64 hayday I'd bet I went years where I played a game a day.

I may not always be as in to them as I am now, but like comics, I doubt I will ever give up gaming completely.

I was playing very few (if any) games the first couple of years after graduating from college. I've only started playing games again over the last year/year and a half.

Sometimes... It happened few times this year and frankly, I didn't mind.. I had to distance myself from games for a while anyway but then, when I come back to it, I'm playing like a beast :D
I've thought about this many times. Mainly when I'm totally out of money because of all the damn gaming stuff I buy. I think, if I sold all the games I had, I have a 'lot' more money than I have now. But on the other hand, I'd be bored as hell... ;)

I don't see myself giving up gaming completely. Sure I have times where I slow down the game playing. I guess the worst was right after high school (circa 1995). I had got into cars and women and moved out and damn near missed the whole 32 bit era. I didn't get a Saturn till 2000 and a N64 til last year. But in that time I did find time to play Symphony of the Night, Grand Theft Auto, and Tales of Destiny. So yeah I might fall out of the loop from time to time but I'll Never stop gaming...

I think very few of us will totally give up gaming. It's what we did when we were young.
Old men now still fish, still shoot guns, still do whatever the hell they always loved doing. (So long as their bodies permit it!)
Honestly, when will our bodies not permit us to play games? I am sure I'll still play games far into my geezer years. Even if my hands get shaky and I can't play the shooters, I'll still play RPGs and slow puzzlers.

I'll be heading to college this fall so it would probally be in my best intrest to either cut down or completely stop my gaming. I donno if I could do that. I def have been getting less enjoyment from games than I used to, though.
I mostly game in the winter. When the summer hits, too busy running, hiking, mountain bikeing, and riding my motorcycle, and just getting out and enjoying the weather. Games are a hobby, not an obsession. I won't die if I don't have them or can't use them.

No i do not think so, i think i will play till i drop dead.Unless i get blind or something but then still games could be played, for example based on sounds.
