I just found out these even existed.
I really want to know if I could use it to play Gubble.
stupid question?

Sure. The Nyko Trackball is pretty tough to find, but it's not too expensive when it comes up on Ebay. US release.

I'm not sure if its Gubble playable. I know the eariler PS games that were mouse capable (Lemmings&Oh No More Lemmings, the Command and Conquer stuff, and a few of the point and clicks like Deception) all had a little icon on the back near the how many blocks of memory it took and other system info and there was a symbol for the mouse. Then again a fair number of games could just work for it (assuming that theres only one analog stuck that deals with anything and the other one would be inactive). Give it a shot, it should work alright, and if not, it just wont work at all.

If the game accepts the PS mouse, then you can use the Trac-Ball. Super Breakout is a wonder with this device.

Interesting. I had always assumed that the Nyko Classic Trackball only worked with mouse-compatible games. PapaStu, are you saying that it may work with other analog titles?
I guess I could do some research at home myself...

I would buy one in a second to play some of the arcade compilations.

Hell yeah. A trackball goes great with Atari Collections 1 & 2 or Atari Anniversary Redux for the PlayStation. I haven't bought Atari Anthology for the PS2, though, so I don't know if the trackball would work with that one.

Papastu is right - I misread the question and thought it was "Is there a PSX trackball." That said, I also thought that games that could use the mouse could use the trackball.

Thats more than likely the case, however with some of these weirder releases (like Gubble which was a MudDuck release) who knows if they allowed this kind of control.
Like I said but misspelled in my prior post, IF there is only ONE analog stick that does anything something might work. I really dont know, and it would probably make the games harder because I really doubt that most will react as fast as the trackball can register movement. I'd check it out with some other random games but I dont have a trackball to check them with. It could be fun to try it out and then again it could just be a fun attempt at futility too.

Wow....this thread still lives.
Anyone out there have one, and use it?
It seems like a relatively obscure peripheral, so I doubt it works on the games I really want it to....
I just cant play Crystal Castles without a trackball, its just wrong dammit!
i would rather hold out until I can buy a working CC arcade machine.

I don't have Gubble, so I can't test that out for you. But I can definitely say that it works with Crystal Castles on Atari Collection 2, and I'm pretty sure that it works with Crystal Castles on Atari Anniversary Redux. What other games did you want to play using the trackball?

I bought a cheap import track ball years ago and it worked like crap! Wish I remembered the name so you could steer away from that one ! If I find the name I will post it.

I know for a fact it works with:
Centipede
Tempest X3
Arcades Greatest Hits Tempest
AGH Centipede
AGH Missile Command
AGH Super Breakout
On some of the above, you need to go into the menu and turn down the mouse sensitivity setting. The above posters are right, look for the mouse symbol.
I liked the Nyko so much I bought a second one and made it into a Tempest rotary controller:

I don't know how much games support it, but the is also a kind of paddle-controller for the Playstation which was released in Europe and came with the Limited Edition of Puchi Carat. It worked good, with that game, never tried it on other games.
A great controller for that game, I'm only still wondering which person did the Dutch translation of the word retro-controller on the box. As the box calls it a controller for young kids in Dutch (hey maybe that's why it sold that bad here).

Awsome that it can play CC...and tempest! I would rather play tempest with a trackball than a D-pad.... or whatever you call sonys d-pad knockoff.
Im pretty sure gubble isnt mouse compatible ( hopefully im wrong) so it probably wont work....
Are there any games not mentioned that work particularly well with this controller? ;)

There have been at least two previous threads that discussed Playstation mouse-compatible (and so Nyko Classic Trackball-compatible) games. With big lists:

I have Golden Tee and the trackball, but it doesn't seem to work. What an oversight by the developers.

I guess it's not mouse-compatible? Check the back of the box.
But wait. Is it a PS2 title? I don't know of any official PS2 mouse peripheral. But then, assuming that it's a PS2 game, might it work if you plug a USB mouse into your PS2? And if so, I think that there are USB-type trackballs. I don't think anybody has done a Nyko PS1-to-USB hardwired conversion at this time, but aren't there PS1-to-USB converter cables?
Just some random thoughts.
