I'm finally getting around to building an interface for my coffin controller, pictured here...

I'm not up to keyboard hacking so I'm looking at the IPac and the XArcade BYO. Any thoughts on these two different interfaces? I like the fact that the Ipac is cheap, but if I go with the BYO, I can get adapters for the consoles, which appeals to me greatly. For that reason, I'll probably end up with the Xarcade, but I was just wondering if anyone prefered one over the other.

The Xarcade board isn't built nearly as well as the Ipac, and I believe the IPac has adapters for some consoles now, IIRC.

I saw an Xbox adapter on their site with promises of more "coming soon." I wish they were a little less vague on that.

Ultimarc is one guy... pretty hard to nail down dates and such if you're one guy with a family.

I have not used an Xarcade board so I can't speak about it, but I can tell you that I've installed 3 different IPacs and each time I'm amazed at how smooth and easy the installations go. In my main MAME cabinet I left the original arcade CP and just wired up my IPac to the joystick and buttons in place. The one in my cabinet is a PS/2 model and my friend has the USB model and both work fine and required 0 configuration. I know that Ultimarc has software that will allow you to alter the config of the buttons and stuff but I run stock MAME so I've never had a reason to need to do so.

Ultimarc produces very high quality products, and Andy provides excellent support. He actually cares whether or not people are able to get his products working.

I agree that the iPac is a very high quality product. I can recommend it 100%. I have no experience with any Xarcade products, but I do see complaints about their quality control pop up every once in a while on another forum.
