Ive been playing Tempest 2000 and Defender 2000 on a Jag emulator (finally got one that actually works) and I always liked Tempest 2000 aka Tempest X on PSone one of my favorite games of all time and I thought Defender 2000 was good also.

My question is what the Hell happened to Missile Command 2000? I mean that game blows goat balls. its ugly and plays like $hit. I knew that some Jag games were far less than stellar but damn this one was a real stinker.

Anyho I was just wondering what other gamers opinion were on these 2000 games on the 'ol Jaguar?

I think there is a Breakout 2000. I never knew there was a Missile Command 2000 though...

Missile Command 3D (not 2000) was intended for use with the never-released VR helmet. It plays wonderfully with it, in my opinion, and is a good game even without it. It just isn't as deep as Tempest 2000 was.

Breakout 2000 was also released, although it isn't in the Minter style. Major Havoc 2000 and Star Raiders 2000 were at one point both planned, but neither made it to production.

If you like Tempest, I would suggest Robotron X / 64 (PSX / N64) and Tempest 3000 (NUON) as some other awesome updated arcade gems.

interesting I didnt know about those "other" 2000 games.

I also forgot that missile command 2000 was originally planed as a VR game.

Hey, Missile Command 3D is one of my favorite games. Of course, I'm talking about the 3D virtual version, not the first two (which do suck). I love the 3D underwater/air/space one with the cool bosses. Guess I'm just one of the few who appreciates this game... :eek 2:

No, you're not alone. I appreciate it too :) I also agree about the first two sucking. It is too bad that the "emulated" original Missile Command seemed to be so far off base. Jeff Minter's original Tempest which he did from memory without the machine around seems closer to the arcade version to me.

The 3D version is great, but the steep learning curve ruins a great thing a little too quickly. If the game had more waves of missiles and progressed a little slower or had *one* more level, I think I would have liked it a lot more. But only three levels, and it does seem a little rushed together.

Of course, those three levels are wonderful. They just leave me wanting more :)

Me too. I always thought Missile Command 2000 was the decent game. Defender 2000 is the ugly one. The ships are just TOO big in the updated version of D2K. It's just no fun at all to play.

Nothing compares to Tempest 2000, however. Still one of the greatest pure adrenalin rush games ever made. And to the original poster - Tempest 2000 is NOT "aka Tempest X". They're very different games - try them back to back and you'll see.

I would just like to add to this that Jaguar Tempest 2000 is not even the same as Saturn Tempest 2000 or PC Tempest 2000 (or the unlockable Tempest 2000 mode in Tempest X). If you really get into the games, Jag T2K is the best way to go.

Tempest X is a good game by itself, but the Jag version is better. And yes, I have played and beat every version out there :)

Whenever I've put Missile Command 3D into my Jag, I usually wind up playing the classic version rather than any of the newer versions on the cartridge. I'm not sure if that says more about me or about the game... :P

Tempest 2000 is by far the best remake for the Jaguar, the game is the only reason I still have my Jaguar connected.

For the others I really like Defender 2000, I think I prefer it over the original (but remember I'm too young to have memories from the original game).

Break Out 2000 and Missle Command 3D just missed their goal. I think both game are only fun ebcause they have some classics mode. The game (both non-Minter) just miss the creative input from Minter and that makes them a bit disapointing.

Missle Command 2000 (3D :) ) is great fun with the Jag VR!
*and playing it this way really shows it wasn't really meant to be played without the headset* but still proves to be a decent game in-itself.

Reason being short was to limit the amount of time you were using the headset I'm sure... as to cut back on excessive play with it on could lead to headaches and so forth.

I enjoyed Missile Command 3D when I had a Jaguar... wish I could have tried it with a VR headset :(

How do you guys ever got your hands on the VR handset?

There was a prototype that made some appearances at Jagfest 2K1, the Midwest Gaming Classic and (I beleive) CGE. I tried it at the Midwest Gaming Classic for a while, and it was absolutely mind blowingly good.

I believe that the prototype is now in the hands of the ultimate Jaguar collector, Jay Smith.
