Saving Screenshots Question

I've been using a MAME061 emulator for quite awhile now, and there are screens from a few games that I've been wanting to save. The menu has the F12 key as the 'Save Screenshot' function. I press F12 and that's it. There's no confirmation or anything. I cleaned out my picture document folders to see if the saved screenshot would get transfered to the empty folder. I hit the F12 key once more when the screenshot came up on the ROM, then I checked my pic folder. Nothing was there.

In all likelyhood, I feel like I'm botching the whole procedure. What is the process for saving screenshots from a MAME emulator?

Whereever Mame is installed there should be a folder called "snap". Look in there and your screenshots should be there!

Still nothing. My snap folder is empty with the exception of the text documentation. This drives me nuts. >:(

Maybe it gets copied to the clipboard? Open up Paint or another graphics program and see if you can paste it in there.

I have just tested and confirmed that pressing f12 does indeed save a snapshot to the snap directory. Make sure the directory isn't read-only. Make sure Mame is in the folder with that directory. Other than that, I don't know man. Works perfectly on this end.

The first thing I would do is try a newer MAME build. 0.61 was nine years ago, maybe there's a bug in that particular version?

Are you running it in a Game Boy or something? There's been over 40 newer versions released than that already. You're missing out on a ton of newer, better games.

I use Picassa to handle screen shots and just hit the Print Screen button. I know I don't have to use Picassa for that, but it lets me get multiple screen shots without having to leave the game and copy/paste what I get.
