Hi,

I just want to know how to do this. I read an earlier forum about how to hookup a Sega CD, but the link doesn't work. Please help.

All right, so you want to hook up a Sega CD and a Sega 32X to your Genesis II. Well Dad-Gum, I can help with that!

Fisrt, I sell you how to hookup the Sega CD. Step-by-Step!

Take out Sega CD
Take Genesis
Look at right side of Genesis
Find and Remove the expansion area, a little pop-off thing made of black plastic
Remove the Red thing that says "Caution: Do Not Remove". I said Remove IT!
Set Genesis on the Sega CD
Slide Genny to the Right to plug the Genny into the Sega CD.

I would like to point out that I have the Sega metal plate on the bottom of my Genesis 2 that was packed with the Sega CD systems, but I am TOLD that these are Not Required and that they just hold the system in place on the Sega CD. If you have this plate I would say go ahead and connect it, if not, just hope that the others that have told me that this is not required are right.

Now then, The Sega 32X!

Make sure you have your Sega Genny/Sega CD ready and waiting
If you have the spacer for the 32X for the Genny 2, slide it onto the 32X on the part that will go into the Genesis cart input.
Put the 32X into the Sega Genesis cart input
Put on that weired little 5 inch cable for the 32X and Genesis 2 that plugs into the 'signal out' on the Genesis on one end and plugs into the 'signal in' on the 32X on the other end (if you don't have this, you're screwed, no 32X)

I would like to point out here that the 32X came with weird little hooks that you put into the cart input on the Genesis, but these were unneeded and just help to keep the cart slot open (stupid little things in my opionion), completly unneeded. Also, 32X systems have this little problem of being proned to stop working after a while because of an internal mess up (I'll go into details latter if you need help), good news is I know how to fix this and have done it on a few systems before and gotten all of them to work again, 100% success every time! If your 32X does not work, tell me and I will tell you how to fix it, it's cheep and easy, and all that you need are a good screwdriver and a pair of needle-nosed plyers!

Now, Plug AC adaptors into the Sega Genesis, CD, and 32X systems and plug you RF or AV cable (if you have RF, PLEASE UPGRADE TO AV!!! These Systems Were MADE For S-Vid, But Without Moding AV Is a MUST!) into the 'signal out' on the back of the 32X system. Add a controller and game and Game ON!!!

Good luck and tell us how this works when you are done!

Well, it's been a couple of days, JohnnyBlaze. Have you tried this yet? :hmm:

Yo

I think the metal plates and metal inserts for the cart slot are all for grounding and to reduce RF. The base plate does hold the sega and the CD unit together pretty firm.

If you are going for the grandaddy of video modes remember all sega systems have R G B and sync on the AV port. I got a custom cable and hooking this up to a slow scan monitor is really sweet. Check out my setup.

Good luck

So, JohnnyBlaze, it has been over a week since I told you how to do this. Have you tried it yet? Did it work? Do you need any more help? More info? A place to get a needed part or something? ANYTHING?

I must know if this worked, or even if you have tried it or if you will try it! I musft know if the info that I gave you is good enough or if you need more info or help with anything! Please tell me how things went, or if things went any way at all (as in, if you tried this at all or will try this at all). I wish to help.

Please get back to us soon as to howthings worked out for you or if you need help with anything.

I just got my items yesterday. But, my Sega CD doesn't work. It doesn't even power up at all. I even reinstalled it. I'm trying to get a replacement. But, is there anything I can do in the mean time? My 32X is hopefully coming on Thursday.

Hello JohnnyBlaze!

First off, I have a question. Why didn't you post in your thread that you weren't going to get you stuff for a while? I would have stoped posting those anoying messages asking for your sucess rate if I had know that!

Well, with your Sega CD issue, you say it is not working at all? Well, let's get started!

First off, it is hooked up correctly right? And you have played the Sega Genesis to know that it works properly right? Are you sure you are using the right AC adaptor for the Sega CD? It is the same one as the AC adaptor for a Sega Master System or a Sega Genesis model 1.

If you said yes to all of that then:

You are sure that all carts of any kind are removed for your Genesis? You power it up and the Sega Genesis red power light comes on, but nothing happens on the Sega CD!? The red light on the Sega CD does nothing!? You get no sound or start-up picture (the screen that shows "Sega CD" and is in outer space)!?

If you say yes to this, then it sounds like something is wrong in the hookup of the Sega Genesis and Sega CD, though highly unlickly, or the Sega CD system itself is busted somehow.

I am sorry that I can not help you much more with this. Perhapes someone eles on the Roundtable might. In fact, I am going to post a copy of all of this in your origional thread in in the Tech. & Rest. Society in the Roundtable forums so that if anybody can help, they will hear of your problem and help! If any of you out there reading this know how to fix this guys problems, Help Him!!!

Well, I guess that is all I can do for you for now JB. Sorry I could not help you out much. Get back to a reasponse to me with anymore details you can give, and tell me how things go with your 32X!
