Interesting atrilce. I've tried explaining this to my mother and she'll have nothing of it.

Thanks for the good read. NOw time for some critical thinking.

Same here.

To tell you the truth I'm really surprised at how much sense this make.
I thought that it was true that video games would not be criticized as much if they were new, but I never thought they helped you think.

Also he criticizes homework to, this guy must be really popular with kids.

Way back in the 1970s, Carl Sagan suggested that gaming can help give children an intuitative sense of mathematical principles. Playing an economics game would help you "feel out" the way the market works similiar to how playing catch gives you an intuitive feel for gravity and physics.

I wonder how many former ELITE fans work on Wall Street...

As for explicit versus collateral, I think the Internet encourages collateral learning just as much as gaming. Reading online isn't passive. You can instantly respond to the author: call them an asshole, point out their bias, correct a misspelling, and with wikis you can even edit and format the text itself. I certainly don't read the local paper the same way I did before I got online. I'm much more sensitive to when reporters are trying to bullshit with slanted poll results or logical fallacies.

Come to think of it, when was the last time we saw an article in a newspaper or magasine which was pro video games instead of againest them.
