I just bought one of these at the Goodwill for $1.99. Is there any way to play regular NES games on these things? How do they work? Are they really bad in comparison to the real thing? Also, is the lightgun just that bad? I tried playing duck hunt and I couldnt hit anything.

First off, good deal for 1.99.

I have one of these, and I have been able to play NES games on it. You need to buy a 60 - 72 pin adaptor [the opposite of the ones in the gyromite carts]. I got mine off Lik-sang.com for 7 or 8 bucks.

Its a bit awkward playing NES carts on it, though, because they stick out about 8 inches from the back and end up crashing a lot.

As for the light gun, I think you just have a bad one. The one I got with mine works just as well as the ol' Nintendo orange one did.

Finally, how does it work? Its got the famous NES-on-a-chip in it, and 2 rom chips that contain the 70 or so games on it.

Could it be because I have an HD ready 36in 4x3 Sony WEGA? I thought I heard somewhere that the WEGAs dont work with any lightguns.

Yes, I think so. I also heard that the lightgun doesnt work with HDTV. Dunno if its true tho.

Yeah, I just tried it on my older TV and it works just fine... damn HDs!

Do a forum search, there are a couple of other threads on these. Good find for the price. Also, don't put AA batteries AND hook up a power supply or it will literally explode.

LOL! With mine, as long as there is only one target on the screen, the lightgun hits every time! However, once there are two or more targets like the two-duck mode of Duck Hunt, I can't hit a thing! I just use my NES and the old carts for light gun games anyway.

I was lucky enough to get a version of the Super Joy III (or maybe it was II, it's been a long time since I've played it) that had a minimal amount of duplicate games on its built-in game selection.

I will keep that in mind. I ALMOST did that earlier, but I couldnt find a plug for the AC adapter.... I think it was a sign...
