Nice! Maybe I should get you to do my SNES. :D

What kind of paint did you use?

That's the best painted console I've ever seen. Looks great! You could do all sorts of bad things on eBay with that - it looks THAT good :) Will you paint one for me?

The paint? Krylon Fusion paint.

I used mortite & tape to cover up where i didn't want painted.

And as for the controllers, I'm working on those. They are partially painted (The back part of them)

It was a nightmere getting the mortite off. I had to use toothpicks.

Edit:

When i painted this i wasn't expecting such a big response.

What kind of consoles? :)

That's great - I think a darker blue would have been a better choice, though, if only to avoid clashing with the black of the main Genesis unit.

Just my £0.02 :)

I thought the same thing. The "shine" on the console looks cool, but I would“ve picked a darker color too. Maybe mod it with a blue led too!

I really like it. The texture of the paint looks cool too.

That is what i had in mind when i chose the color. :)

Maybe mod it with a blue led too!

I was thinking about Modding it with a differant LED, but i was not sure on the color.

Now that you have mentioned it, I think i will mod it with a Blue LED.

Check in your local hardware store.

Mortite is the stuff that people use to plug up cracks around windows and doors.
It costs about $2.50.

Did the can of blue paint give it that high gloss? Or did you clear coat it with another kind of paint?

Poofta!

wow man that is awesome, you think you can post a tutorial or something? or maybe do one for me, i was thinking red, dark red, to make it look real bad ass with the black.

but yeah that is definately the best painted genesis ive seen, maybe even best overall, i also like those black SNES going around, they are nice, but painting a snes is wierd since the plastic is rugged.

Very nice job Slate! I haven't used Krylon Fusion yet myself but after seeing the results you had I may have to try it out. (cheaper than 12 coats of high gloss hardcoat over other paints I'm sure) Also a quick FYI - going into exterior console modification = a good idea at first but a pain later on. Also eventually you're going to run into problems with a botched paint job, it happens. Lastly you usually end up with a backlog of orders which leads to getting ahead of yourself and letting quality drop. I'm only speaking from my experences of course.

If you do decide to do exterior paint modifications as a side business than I recommend selling already painted systems. (just like creating paintings, you make your art, and sell it) What I did is offer discounts if the buyer would trade me an unpatined system for the modified one. (stock Dreamcast for a painted Dreamcast, stock controller for painted controller, etc.) Not only did this allow revenue to be earned but it always gave me fresh consoles to come up for design ideas with and if I happened to screw something up I didn't have to worry about anyone getting pissed off.

Here are a few of mine (haven't done any Genesis' yet)...

Thank for the advice. I'm going to need it!

I gave it two coats of the same paint. But, to make it look even Shinier, I'm thinking of using some carwax on it.

That is a very nice shade of blue you have on it.
