I have an N64 test cartridge and I know of at least a couple of others, but I did not see it in the online guide. Shouldn't this be added?

I've never seen one before and have no info on it/them. Can you provide pictures or details about the cartridge? I'd be happy to add it with just a little info behind it as a prerequisite.

Sure. The link below will get you to the pics. I believe the small black piece on the top edge of the back of the cart is to test a memory module. The two other pics are of a gameboy test cart, which is also a service center only item. I couldn't find it in the online guide either. I'm sorry the pics are a little dark. The lighting was horrible. I will gladly help with whatever info I can. Just let me know. Thanks.

The diagnostics that the N64 cart runs are pretty simple, and very similar to the SNES burn-in cart and the NES test carts.

Got it covered. You'll see it in this weekend's online update.

Thanks again for the heads up!

I've got one exactly like that one but with japanese label. You should check if the original label (behind the current label) is in japanese and if the test check japanese too. If so it's not a variation and it should go on the database too.

Nicola, there is a label behind the one on there now...I'll see if it checks the Japan versions also and let you know.

Thanks again for adding the N64 and GB test carts. I saw that you placed them under "Demos, samples, and non-games." Shouldn't these be listed under "protos and one-of-a-kinds" like the NES and SNES test carts are? I was thinking they should have the same category. Just curious.

What do you guys think about the category?

Personally, I think test carts should be under demos & non-games, not prototypes & one of a kinds, which is why I put the GB cart there. I checked the database after you posted and it does look like almost all other test carts are listed as protos, which I feel is innacurate. Granted very small numbers were produced of any given test cart and even fewer made it out into the general population, but they are neither prototypes or one of a kinds.

That's a very good point Mike. I agree with you on the fact that they are neither protos nor one-of-a-kinds. I suppose all the other test carts...NES and SNES...should be recategorized.

I agree with Mike on this. The SNES and NES databases are currently being maintained by Portnoyd so I'll point him to this thread as well.
