I was wondering is there any where that has a rarity guide for japanese megadrive games. I went by my local Savers and they had a mint complete Double Dragon II jap megadrive game that I got and they have more in the back that haven't been priced yet. I wanted to see if they were worth buying.

Find out what they are, i might be interested in some of what they have
MD games from Japan tend to have better artwork than thier American counterparts.

if you're going to PLAY them... you should buy them. if you're going to sell them... well, it depends on the games they have and your potential customers. some MD games are worth a dollar, some are worth a few hundred. now, savers might not know that (how much is that double dragon II), but they don't need to know that, LOL what else do they have?
anyway, you won't find prices here, but try classicgaming.com/japangaming for a bunch of cover scans, rarity answers and short game descriptions.

I recently got more in the Japanese MD-scene. Most games aren't that expensive, except for some of the late realeases by Sega self (Pengo, Comix Zone, The Ooze, Alien Soldier), also a lot of Acclaim games can go for big $. Also a few Tengen games are really expensive (Slap Shot MD and Snow Bros).
Oh and yes shooters also seem to catch decent prices normally.

Last post was not from Skascha but from, me. As I am at her place I forgot to log in under my own name. Just had to clear that up.

well, it varies. both older and later titles can fetch a pretty penny. try to find inexpensive complete versions of of early to mid md games like snow bros., battle mania 2, alisa dragoon, gleylancer, dahna, and a bunch of others i can't think of because i'm too tired... -_-
heeeeeeey! someone shift this to the import forum already...

If you can find out the titles there's probably folks here who could give you a rough idea for them.
There's a full list of games in the database here, but scarcity ratings won't be added until we can recruit a Japanese MD expert - aside from the very common/very rare titles I don't feel qualified to rate them.

Jesus, if you can't....who in heck can? :/
Well, I've got that same problem for a system I'm working on. Agh.
While we're at it, though, I can only really think of one game where I like the western release art better than the Japanese: Revenge of Shinobi/The Super Shinobi. RoS's is a great demonic mask/face thing, while The Super Shinobi's is just a drawn version of the title screen (this has its merits, though).

Nah, I know the PAL stuff, but could only speculate at about 80% of JP games. I know there's at least a couple of people here who know the terriatory a lot better ;)

I agree and believe this to be the only exception (that i can recall) to the "Japan art is better". I've never seen the art for Super Shinobi 2 (Shinobi 3), but i like that the American art on that one.
Anyway, i do recall "Steel Empire" being a rare Japanese title...but probably only in Japan as its kinda common here.

The American art for Shinobi III....by American-release standards....not bad. But compared to Super Shinobi 2's, it's crap, IMO. One of the most badassed covers seen yet (and the picture wraps around to the back, as well).

Well...according to videogameimports.com (the UK pounds site), it's rare...according to eBay, it doesn't seem to be in very high demand.
I even think the cover art for Comix Zone is improved in Japan...it's not as if the US art is uber-cool, but somehow they managed to get it better (besides the strings of nonsense letters) there.
One game I've wondered about, though, is The Ooze...I've seen the US cover, but I've also seen some Japanese Mega Drive games titled (apparently) "The Ooze," but marked as an RPG? Has a lot of text on the cover and perhaps is an X-rated title. What is this?

I just looked the SS2 cover on google and i will have to agree with that statement.
That cover is pretty sweet.

The Ooze really has some strange arwork in Japan. Don't know if it said RPG. But yes I think it was a 18+ game and no there are no screenshots at all on the box.

the rating for the ooze is based on violence, not sex. i guess any game where a scientist gets melted into a pool of living goo was considered somewhat shocking, lol. also shocking is the price for the import version of the ooze. last i checked, a new one can easily top $100-$125!

I don't quite see the logic, but then again, I'm not quite Japanese.

I know you were trying to be funny. And perhaps it would have been helpful had I actually played the game so I could understand what anybody was talking about.

LOL a-haaaaaaaaaaaa! well, you can find the US version for pretty cheap if you look around. your assignment for the month (should you choose to accept it), is to do just that... and laugh harder at my jokes in the future ;)
remember, if you or any of your dp force is caught or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of this action. this message will self-destruct in five seconds... good luck!
