UPDATE 06/12: Courtesy of AltairBoy we've got screencaps that show last night's winners and what they won:

>> Click HERE << (http://photobucket.com/albums/v453/ubikuberalles/cge2k5%20drawing%202/?action=view&current=cge2k5_drawing02.jpg&slideshow=true&interval=3)

WINNERS: Please e-mail me with your shipping address so I can get your prizes out to you.

Thanks to everyone who played!

UPDATE 06/09: We've got 51 members in the drawing for round 2 and the entrance period is officially over. We'll do the drawing on Saturday, June 11th at 9pm EDT.

Note that there will be approximately 10 runners-up in THIS "last chance" drawing. We'll pick for the trip first and then a series of fun game-related prizes donated by your pals here at DP.

The webcam live event will be seen at this link:
http://www.digitpress.com/webcam.htm

The chat will be held at this link (or you can use irc EFnet, channel #vbender):
http://www.digitpress.com/irc

Neuropolitique won the first pool drawing. Here we go again, our third annual "Send a Member" event, round TWO!

You're already aware of classic gaming's most prestigious event: Classic Gaming Expo. A place where you can mingle with the legends of yesteryear, find that out-of-print game you've always wanted, play classic arcade and console systems from your youth, stroll through an unbelievable museum of rare and unusual vintage gaming items, and generally relax in an atmosphere that is decidedly retro. There is only ONE Classic Gaming Expo.

The trouble is, it's far away. And times are tough. And there are other more pressing things to spend our hard-earned cash on. Well... how about if you could enjoy everything there is to enjoy at Classic Gaming Expo for just ten dollars?

That's right. $10.

We are now opening the gates to a very special contest where fifty "players" go in, and one comes out. That one goes to San Francisco for Classic Gaming Expo with no additional out-of-pocket expenses:

- The entry fee of $10 x 50 entrants will cover the cost of air fare and the hotel for Friday and Saturday night (August 21st and 22nd). Any additional money for plane and room fare is YOURS to spend.

- You will receive a free weekend pass to the show.

- You will receive $100 of "spending money" at the Expo. Buy that game of your dreams!

- Here's perhaps the best part. On Friday night before the show, CGE Services hosts an "alumni dinner", where the very gaming legends who will be on hand for keynote speeches throughout the weekend gather for a special gathering. YOU will be at that dinner. The meal is free but most importantly, you'll be rubbing elbows with this year's alumni. Trust me, this is worth way more than any dollar value. Aslk l_lamb, dreams, or maxlords, who have won this contest in the past.

That's right. $10.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO.
1. The first 50 entrants who are PAID IN FULL qualify. Only ONE entry per family, please.
2. You must be a forum member - new or old - to qualify. Payments from unidentified parties will be immediately returned (it might be a good idea to post here that you're IN once your payment is sent).
3. PayPal to digitalpress@email.com is accepted. You CAN send a money order but this could harm your chances should the entries fill up quickly. See item #1 above.
4. A list of members whose payment has been received will follow in the next post so you can keep track of who's in.
5. The contest ends at 11:59pm EDT on Saturday June 11th or until all 50 spots are filled.
6. The drawing will be webcam-displayed soon after the contest closes, with all names clearly shown and the drawing done publicly.
7. If you already have plane tickets or hotel fare, we will re-imburse your costs. Thus, if you're "already going to CGE", you are still qualified to play.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE HERE!

Game ON.

Joe, did I make it in? I just sent my payment.

I stupidly chose last week to switch bank accounts in PayPal and did'nt know I could'nt send any money as a unverified member, nor did I know how long it would take for the depoists to come in.

If I did'nt make it, keep the money to help defray the expenses for the person who wins. :)

Looks like Round 2 is filled up. Good luck to everyone!

Something to ponder: I think it says a lot about an online community when ** $1,000 ** is basically donated to send two people to CGE. Sure, we're all hoping we get drawn, but most of us know that odds are slim (1 in 50). But the fact remains that we've raised this much so two of us can have one hell of an adventure. Kudos to you all.

And thanks again Joe for organizing, arranging and running these. Every year, one or two Digital Press members get a free trip to CGE. And that's an awesome prize, no matter how you slice it. Name any other online community that does the same.

That's what I thought. :D

Yep...sure I'd love to win, but it's pretty cool to contribute to someone else's trip to.

3rd drawing possible? I would not be shocked.

Umm.. I don't really see how someone could walk from Upstate New York to California. Especially if he's busy with work. ;)

Umm.. I don't really see how someone could walk from Upstate New York to California. Especially if he's busy with work. ;)He's saying that he entered even though he didn't have to because of how close the Expo is to his house. He more-or-less "contributed" towards someone else attending the convention. Ergo, even if you can't make it at all, you can still enter the contest and pay towards someone else getting to go for free. The selflessness of the people that post here. That's the point he was making. (Have I used enough italics in this post to make my point?)

Good luck to all who have entered. And to those who entered though they didn't need to, thanks for your donation towards another member's awesome summer trip!

I got my prizes yesterday. Thanks Joe!

The prizes are great and I'm glad I got them. However, they did cause a little domestic trouble at the house last night.

To me, the most valued prize in the package is the shot glass.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/ubikuberalles/photos%20for%20dp%20site/prizes01.jpg

Naturally, after unpacking it, I couldn't just put it on a shelf without testing it first:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/ubikuberalles/photos%20for%20dp%20site/prizes02.jpg

It works! :)

Then the bad stuff started happening. Mr. Flibble can detect the smell of whiskey like a bloodhound can track an escaped prisoner and it wasn't long before he demanded a drink.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/ubikuberalles/photos%20for%20dp%20site/prizes03.jpg

I tried explaining to him that, considering his small body size, a 2 oz shot of whiskey to him would be like a normal person drinking a whole bottle of the stuff. He didn't care and made a big deal out of it. I relented and give him one shot before locking up the whiskey. A decision I would soon regret.

At first it looked like it wouldn't be so bad and all he did was silly things like "Look at me! I'm wearing a DP T-shirt!"

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/ubikuberalles/photos%20for%20dp%20site/prizes04.jpg

Or: "Look at me! I have a CD on my head!"

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/ubikuberalles/photos%20for%20dp%20site/prizes05.jpg

But then he got a little sick and made a mess over my new DP CD.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/ubikuberalles/photos%20for%20dp%20site/prizes06.jpg

I was hoping that that would be the end of it but I was dead wrong. Contrary to popular perception, Mr. Flibble doesn't get cross when he's drunk. Instead, he get's very very sad and sentimental.

He saw Mr. Space Fury on the other DP T-shirt and started sobbing uncontrollably.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/ubikuberalles/photos%20for%20dp%20site/prizes07.jpg

"I love you Mr. Space Fury! I LOVE you!"

That would have gone on for hours if Mr. Flibble didn't get sick again and, quite LITERALLY, puked his guts out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/ubikuberalles/photos%20for%20dp%20site/prizes08.jpg

Oh man! Stuffing EVERYWHERE! I put Mr. Flibble to bed and then cleaned up the mess. It's a good thing I usually keep the booze locked up. Well, it could have been worse. Back in the old days, Mr. Flibble's drinking usually involved naked women running in the streets, gunshots, cops, jail time. O_O So I can deal with a little dancing and penguin vomit. Mr. Flibble has mellowed out in his old age.

Anyway, thanks for the prizes Joe!
