Welcome to this week's Monday Morning MAME Club Posting. Every Monday, a member of the MAME club will pick a new game for you to play in MAME! All you have to do to participate is install MAME, download the ROM of the week from this message, and then post your thoughts about the game! You can post a full review of the game or simply tell us what you liked/didn't like about the game. Have you played this game before? Have you played it in an actual arcade? Do you like the genre? How did it run on your computer? Did you beat it? If so, how long did it take? What was your high score? How far can you get? Did you have any problems emulating the game? When writing your review, post it right here in the sticky topic and include any thoughts you have about the game. Remember, YOU are the reviewer. Let us know anything and everything you think about the game! Just remember, if you want people to respond during YOUR week, you should play along on OTHER weeks!

I played the first Guforce on the SNES and was left pretty underwhelmed. Actually, it sucks. The arcade game isn't much better.

Then you have Gunforce 2. A complete turn-around, a far better, gorgeous looking game that's become one of my all time favorite arcade games in a very short time. This is a better game then Metal Slug. Yes, I said that. The only thing it's missing is the humor. I prefer the graphics engine here too. People, I know you're obsessed with the MAME tourney (and thanks for locking this in the main forum!), but take a time out and play this game.

Well, it definitely reminds me of Metal Slug (which is a good thing).

Pros:
Hanging onto the boss in the first level
The bridge
Very detailed enemies (especially the larger ones)
Bosses don't flash when you shoot them, but show progressive damage (much more realistic)

Cons:
The 2 guns rotating around that character dynamic
Cheap shots (happens in all of these games)
Character design kind of bland

Overall, a good choice! I didn't even have this rom, somehow, and I thought I had a whole set!

I dig it! I only had time to play throught the first level, right now. It's deceptively easy at first, but then you start dropping tons of virtual quarters during the first boss fight. This would have been a game I would have passed over if left to my own devices, and I would have missed out on it, so good choice!

I think the heat is getting to people. There's a pretty low level of activity on the boards all around. They want to go "outside" and "enjoy" the weather. :P

well, I am a little undecided on this one. never played it until now.

obvious comparison to Metal Slug as noted. Also similar to Contra.

The graphics seems pretty grainy to me and not very vibrant. There was also a ton of slow down, at least on my machine. I am running Mame32 on a P3 650 MHZ. Lots of cheap shots. Most times I died I was like "what the hell hit me". I can't imagine playing this in the arcades. It would cost a fortune.

On the other hand, there are some cool effects and lots of fast paced action. All in all a good game and defiitely worth a spin.

We only got four responses to this one so I'm going to let it run for another week. Surely people have something to say about a game that directly challenges Metal Slug's crown.

The 2 guns rotating around that character dynamic

That's one of the postitives I thought. It's not like the enemy AI is brilliant or anything, and unlike Metal Slug, you have a far wider range of fire. It can be slow, but you're uusally firing in two directions which means you have a better chance.

Sorry I haven't gotten to this yet, been MMO-ing and barely getting my MAME leauge scores in either. I'll get my response up sometime today.
