i performed the mod found here:

http://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/nes_atari.html?SystemID=2600

in an attempt to use my NES controllers on my 7800. the directional pad work fine, but when i press B(fire #1) or A(fire #2) it doesn't stop shooting. i tried both variations of the mod on the site, but i still had the exact same problem.

The problem may be that the mod requires that you replace the two resistors on the controller, but the controller i used doesn't have any resistors on it to replace, nor do any of the other NES controllers that i own
If any one can help me or if anyone has performed the mod successfully i would appreciate any help available.

If i had any 7800 controllers to use, i would use them, but i dont, so someone please help me

Here's a voltage chart and instructions for a genesis adapter if that helps at all:
