View Full Version : Is your collection nearing the finish line?

Can you even spot the finish line, or is it too far away?
I'm hopeful to be done by Halloween of 2005, and right now, my goal seems to be in great shape. There's even an outside chance I could finish it by summer's end.
The funny thing is, I can trace back to November 2002 when I said "that's it I'm almost done" only to find 30 more wants. Heh, this time, I know I'll be done for good... well... maybe... ... hey you never to say never right ;)

well, depends on if you're talking about the whole collection itself or about parts of it (like all US Dreamcast games)
if you are talking about overall: no way, thousands to go
if you are talking about parts: no way LOL
just kidding, my PAL DC is ~35 games away from complete, PAL 32X ~8 games (ok, those include DarXide and Primal Rage :/ ), but other than that, none are even close to finishing...

Total collection? Yeah right. I doubt I'll get it done in my lifetime :)
My US SMS collection is nearing completion, as well as my Atari Jaguar, 5200, Intellivision, Aquarius collections. I've been too lazy and unfocused to complete those.

I don't so much have a "finish line" as I have "checkpoints". I can almost always spot the next checkpoint ahead but there is no end to this crazy race.
Metaphor of the day, +100 meseta for me :)

I don't have a finish line nor do I have checkpoints .
I mainly buy it if Im going to play it or If Its a extreme deal.
I would like a complete psp library but that would be a bit expensive.

In this "crazy race," I actually am getting really close to the point that I'm happy with everything. I wanted a full Jaguar set, and I've done that. I wanted a full Dreamcast set, and other than the stuff in my signature plus some rather random goodies that I've been picking up for it (in-store banners, for instance), I'm almost ready to be done. It will end with a US and PAL set of games, as well as countless other goodies.
I fully expect to be "finished" by the end of the year. After that point, I expect I'll just be a gamer first, collector second with the other systems I have, while keeping an eye out for any new Dreamcast rarities :)

Heh, oh yes... and I'm working on a virtual arcade collection right here on Digital Press :) So far, I'm 7 for 39, but that includes the elusive, expensive Computer Space as one of them :D
I hope to complete that collection by the end of summer!

Fortunately I'm not an "anything" collector, I just get stuff I really want. So my collection does have a visible goal, but I'll certainly keep adding to it after that point. I don't think anyone here will ever really be "finished", but some of us may have a point of satisfaction; a good enough point where there aren't any gaping holes nagging at us.
I have quite a ways to go before I reach that "good enough" point, but since getting a new job and I don't have any serious demands on my money at the moment, I've been hammering out the biggest gaps in my collection- I recently got the PC Engine DUO I've been yearning for since 1992, and I have a Neo Geo AES with 3 games on it's way.. oh boy, it'll be like Christmas when that gets here, I can't wait! :-P Then I'll need a Saturn, and my biggest console gaps will be taken care of. Oh wait, I also need a ColecoVision. And a Magnavox Odyssey. And a Pong unit. And a Sega CD. And a... hell, I'll be busy for awhile. And I'm not even counting the 80s merchandising stuff I'll need to decorate my apartment (when I get it) with. Pac Man, Super Mario Bros. lunchboxes, phones, Nintendo beach towels, etc... Fortunately I have the board games out of the way now.
And once I have all the stuff I want, I'd like to get into arcade cabinets. But I'll worry about that when I have the space/money to accommodate them.

You guys remember that Powerpuff Girls episode where "Lenny the Collector" finally got a 100% complete collection, and went nuts because there was nothing more to do?
Anyone here keep a catalog of your collection? (On your C64?)
PapaStu

Of course I keep a catalog of my stuff.... just in excel on my Mac (which gets transported around on my Palm cause well... thats why I got it).
I'm getting down to the final few US NGPC games (i'll have 27 by the end of the week, and can get #28 just as easily, just depends on if I want to spend the monies on it leaving me 4 games to go.)
My PS collection is getting there... 700+ of 1280ish. My DC collection doesnt look to shabby either, with most of the SAS and NFR releases on top of about half the library.
The only think I can taste, but dont quite have yet is ONE missing disc art for Alundra. Its been over a year of searching for it. I'm not even sure it exists.... but if it does, I will find it and then have a complete WD variant set.

In 2004 i set out to get all 50 of the PAL SEGA Mega CD games that came in the similar packaging with the black borders. So far i have 46 in my house, 2 in transit somewhere in Europe to my house and only 2 more to go.
One of those is Snatcher which i'll have no trouble getting and will probably just have to fork out a fortune for.
The second however is Fatal Fury Special and we all know that doesn't crop up that much.
But at least i can sit back and smile knowing i have complete (minus spines) copies of Marko Magic Football, Theme Park, Smurfs, Syndicate and Samurai Shodown. Yus.

Considering my goal is a complete US set of NES games and I have slightly over 80 I'm nowhere near completing it.

Well, my goal in collecting is to have every game ever released in the U.S., so I don't think that I will ever complete it unless 1) I become very, very rich and 2) there is another video game crash that lasts for several years.
I do have some smaller goals however that are at least feasible. I need 2 more games to comlpete my 32x collection (but I have needed those 2 games for damn near a year). After that, I want to finish off my Dreamcast and Master System collections of which I need 205 and 82 more games respectively.

Just need Tengen tetris and some various items for my tengen NES collection. Dragon Warrior and mega Man's done save for boxes. Atari 2600 Activision carts still chuggin' along...

Right now my older system collections are based almost entirely on getting a few spattered games and all the shmups. That's my main focus, after that, who knows? I'll probably find another genre to obsess over.
I'm also debating finish my VIS collection, just because I'm over halfway there, its cheap, and really, who the hell else would?

There is a finish line for my collection (other than assorted knick knacks toys, posters, etc..) Basically, I collect everything before the release of the Ps/N64, Dedicated consoles only (no commodore, trs-80, atari 800, etc...)
I'm well over halfway done on every console I think. Many systems need less than 20 games to finish (Intellivision, 5200, 7800, odyssey2) Plus all the consoles like channel F, vboy, microvision, game.com, etc... which have low numbers of games are within 10-20% of being done.
No imports. My biggest hurdles are going to be sega cd, saturn, TG-16, and 3d0. Those systems just AREN'T found in the wild where I live, at ALL. so it's all trades or ebay.

I only want to complete my NES collection someday but I'm close to finishing my N64 and ColecoVision. I love the hardware so I still need a 3DO, CD32, Jaguar, Channel F and a Vectrex.
I've thought about a complete VIC-20 cart set. I always seem to run across the same carts. :P

There's always something new to collect. It'll never end. It's just a never ending cycle of happiness.
There will always be more Sonic stuff I want. More Sega stuff. Just more stuff.

I'm almost up to par with my N-gage collection, I need 6 more and then I can just buy the games as they come out. By next week I should have 25/32 NGPC games. When I finish a good amount of my handheld collections i'm hoping to focus more on my console collections.

I still have loads to go with my NES collection, commons i can always buy so i started with the rarer ones first.
I think i have about 260 games give or take a couple,i have all of them in my signature but i am to lazy to count but i think i'm close to 260,mostly completes.

Only thing I collect to get a whole set are Nes games. I have 5 or 6 years to go.
Sadly no.
It will probably be 2-3 years before the Saturn collection is finished (topping off around 800+ games, 30+ consoles, God only knows how many peripherals).
And once that is done I would like to work on my SNES/Genesis/Sega CD collections (already have a decent collection for each from when they were out, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss a lot of stuff).
Also, I'd like to START a PC-Engine Duo collection as well as a Neo-Geo AES collection... but... maybe after I graduate from college...
Finish line? Close on some, but will never get that close on most. For the bulk of systems I own, I just buy the game I want to play.
The system closest to a complete collection (which it never will be) is my Atari Lynx and Jaguar. I have all of the commercial releases for the Lynx and am missing just a few for the Jaguar. Homebrews and protos are a different story.
Intellivision would be the 3rd closest I've got.
Followed by my Odyssey2 collection. This is 99.9% complete on the American side, but has a ways to go on Imports (brazil and europe).

My Ultimate goal in collecting is to have every cart made for Nintendo's home-based consoles. Which means, complete NES, SNES, N64 and Virtual Boy collections. (Gamecube doesn't count because they are discs, Gameboy's don't count because they are not home-based). But I would like to get the N64 and Virtual Boy libraries boxed.
As of now I have:
14 Virtual Boy games (all of them... most boxed/sealed)
350 NES games (500 as of tomorrow)
100 SNES games
100 N64 games
I can sort of see the end for N64 and NES, but I admit, I am still far away.
I think once I finish that, I'll probably move onto getting every GameBoy game or something.

For US released games, I have completed the 5200 and Virtual Boy. My "finish line" is my 7800 collection. I need 8 more carts and a few boxes/manuals to finish up (I would like them all complete if it's not too much $).

Well, I only collect to play, and since there will always be new, great games coming out, my overall collection will probably never be complete. :/ I am however, closing in on owning every game I want for a few systems, most notably N64, with a mere 5 games left!

How can you be finished collecting if they keep making new games?
I can understand, though, if you are referring to collection subsets for dead systems.

I'm getting towards the finish with my collections. I never intended to get every single title for every system I own... just to get all the titles I'm interested in. I think I'm only about a couple dozen titles away from finally kicking back and spending my money on something else for a change. LOL

I think you would be correct. Deep down I feel that even after the Saturn, Neo-Geo, and PC-Engine are conquered there will be more... like, those random obscure consoles with 5 game libraries... *shudders at the thought of trying to collect for those*

Well, good lord man. I didn't say you had to buy the "shit games" like all of those wacky completist collectors.
I mean, if the NES had a lock on "good games", then I'd see more clearly where you're coming from.

I doubt I will be done for quite some time, mainly because right now I am collecting NES era Nintendo/Mario merchandise, and there isn't a set amount of stuff. I am also only a little more than half way done my NES collection. I would imagine it will be at least a couple more years.
