Today is like Christmas for me. My first box of stuff I sent back from Japan arrived today. I sent 7 large boxes back via Sea Mail and this is the first one I sent. Some of the stuff is kind of junk because I hadn't figured out how easy it was going to be to find better stuff. All the games cost $.50-$3 each. I think the Sega Saturn was $15.

Those are some sweet movie programs y-bot! Did you go with Billy Galaxy?

Are you going to bring any of this stuff to the "swap" meet in seattle?

Ssssh don't tell anyone about the Harajuku flea markets. I got almost everything from flea markets and a toy shows. I went to Akihabara for one afternoon. I got a bunch of cheap stuff from a showcase shop. The only thing I remember buying froma a game store was a boxed Bandai Intellivision. The store looked like it had been selling games for 20+ years. Around the top of the store were cases of game & watches (maybe empty boxes or something else in them now. The Intellivision was kind of hidden up on the top shelf and the lady had to call someone to get a price. It was $30 since they hadn't tested it. Some other things I remember getting are:

boxed Duo-R $40
2 boxed CoreGrafx $30 & $15 (missing cable)
2 Twin Famicom $10 & $30 or $40
boxed Famicom & boxed Disk System
Dreamcast Maracas $5
Playstation Dracula X
PC Engine Snatcher
Famicom SMB USA
around 200 Famicom, Super Famicom, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation, PC Engine, Mega Drive, SG-1000, MSX, Cassette Vision, Super Cassette Vision games
tons of stuff I can't remember. I spent about $500 on shipping.

They are for Epoch Super Cassette Vision. I got them at a flea market for $2 each. The only others I found on my trip were $25-$75 each. They are hard to find and in demand in Japan. They are actually one of the few things I found for my collection. I only collect 70's-mid 80's stuff so I will be selling almost everything I bought. Hopefully I can pay for a big chunk of my trip. I bought the SPacewarp to sell but I haven't checked to see what they are going for. It's new and they cost $40 in Japan. I'll get back to you when I figure out how much I need to get for it. I have an old partial set if you interested.

Hi Josh, yes I went with Billy Galaxy. It was so much fun. We were on a TV show, went to a small party that the 5,6,7,8's (the band from Kill Bill) played at and I met an awesome girl there. I can't wait to go back. Those movie programs are all over the place. I think they were about $2 each. I hope I get more boxes before the Seattle swap meet. I will bring what I can. There may be 4 people in my car which will cut down the amount of stuff I can bring. If you see anything you want let me know. I am keeping most of the Super Cassette Vision stuff and some of the Famicom & Disk System stuff.

Bandai Spacewarp is a roller coaster building set from the mid-late 80's. Hundreds of tiny pieces go together to make a roller coaster that a ball bearing rolls on. I used to see them at thrift stores quite a bit years ago but since I found out they are valuable I have only found a few. The small sets sell for $20-$50 and the large sets sell for $50-$100+. I saw one sell for over $500 once a few years ago. Bandai just released the Spacewarp 5000 this year. I think it is exactly the same as the old one. I picked one up because I thought it might do well on ebay since I don't think they are selling them in the U.S. I probably spent $1500-$2000 on junk in Japan. I was lucky to have a free place to stay so my only other expenses were a plane ticket, food & the train.

The only english says "Sakura Wars". I did a Google search and came up with this name:

Sakura Wars GB Geki - Hanagumi Nyuutai!

I think it is an RPG.

I don't even want to think about how much some of that stuff cost...I saw a lot of famicom games running for 1000 yen or more when I was there.

Saturn for 1500 yen though, that's about right.

y-bot
06-07-2005, 11:05 PM
I don't think I paid more than 300 yen for any of the video game stuff besides the Saturn. I could have bought at least 100 different Famicom games for under 300 yen each. I quit looking at them after a few days unless they were 100 yen or less. I saw lots of expensive Famicom games at Mandarake and in Akihabara shops but they were dirt cheap at flea markets. Disk System games were kind of hard to find though.
