This might be old news, but I have no idea.
I just got an email from Nintendo, which basically said that since I had registered Metroid Prime 2 through the "My Nintendo" thing, I was eligible to join some sort of exclusive community.
Thank You for Registering your copy of Metroid Prime 2 Echoes
You have been invited to become a member of a private community, luminothtemple.com, produced by the nintendo.com group.
The Temple isnt just for anyone. It's invite only.
Within you will find members-only content, contests, and our exclusive forums where you'll recieve first-hand news on upcoming games like Geist, Killer 7, and, of course the next Metroid titles.
Well, I went and signed up and they told me to give a "rant" of less than 100 words why I should be allowed to. They also gave me some sort of access code in the email that they never asked for when I registered.
The whole thing sounds kind of corny, but I'm hoping to get some sort of demo disk or something out of the deal.
I was wondering if anybody else has gotten this email, and what people think it is.

Uh huh...first hand information that no news-starved reporter won't beat you to the front pages of GameSpot or IGN with...yeah.
Well, could possibly be a neat way to get *some* semi-priveleged information/commentary from the N crew, I guess.

Well, those fake websites set up for MP2's release provided 25 people with a free copy of the game. Might as well keep up with it a little. MP Hunters should be out soon, no?

This is a marketing ploy. It was most likely created for the very purpose of having threads like this one made about it. It makes it seem like there is some "special" society of people who are "in the know" about Metroid. People will talk it up, and others will say "man, I want to be invited!" So they will go out and buy Metroid Prime 2 or do whatever to hope they get an invite. Buzz will build, and people will anticipate Metroid Hunters. In fact, they may deny a bunch of people access just to fuel the craze and make people wonder what is in that Luminoth Temple.
It is the latest sign of Reggie's dominion over the Nintendo marketing department.

Well, so far it looks like you're batting at least .500; this could well be the case. Hmm.

I got this email too, I have been thinking a little bit about what I wanted to write in the 'rant' that they want. Seems neat, I'm in marketing as my occupation and I do viral stuff like this all the time, it's obvious. But the fact that I'm a fan of all things Nintendo makes me want to learn more about this Luminoth Temple thing, just for the fun of it. I know I'm not going to get exclusive information or anything, but it might be a neat little community to be a part of. Free stuff is nice too, but I'm not expecting anything there.
If anyone "get's in" - please let us know.

It did this to me because my password was not at least eight characters.
I realize that this is a marketing ploy, and that its probably nothing special. If what calthaer said is accurate than its a rather devious marketing ploy. I am just reminded of my free demo of MP2 I got for registering my games, and am hoping for anything else stupid like this.

Yeah this is all just a bunch of BS most likely, but I went ahead and sent my "application" anyway. I haven't heard anything back. LOL

I thought I got this email because I entered the PIN number from Metroid Prime 2 and/or registered my DS that had the Metroid demo, but I'm not sure.
When I clicked the link in the email, I got the registration box that asked for the 100 words-or-less essay. When I typed in luminothtemple.com, it asked for the registration code instead of the essay. I did it three or four days ago and still haven't heard anything.

I went to the website and tried to enter. I put in some crud as my verification code back from the previous "viral advertising" campaign. Then I did some googling and someone had gotten into the site and it looks like all MP2 stuff. Kind of weird. I'll see if I get an e-mail.
I would put more effort into this, but the last one's "resolution" was a big letdown, despite the decent prizes awarded.
Here's that guy's screen capture of luminoth temple. Too big to post the pic, so here's the link:

It's probably the sort of thing where everyone needs to find out for themselves.
EDIT: Whoops - had to fix that bad grammar.

Well, I got in today. Most of the sections are "coming soon". There are some downloads - wallpaper, fansite graphics, etc. and a forum that's "lightly moderated". It's supposed to be for "mature" gamers only. The forums are actually pretty decent, mostly free of 733t$p33x and fanboys, and have posted rules kinda like the old Battlefield here (no hate speech, racial, sexual insults, etc.). Of course, they only cover Nintendo topics.

The forum was entirely populated with older teenage boys, and the place was an utter bore. Surprise, surprise - Nintendo is unable to attract a mature demographic to enjoy their games.
That is why the Luminoth Temple is now CLOSED!
