Check out this seemingly innocent auction...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8195746620

Notice that the auction says...

"Shipping and handling is listed below. All video games are shipped via USPS first class mail"

Shipping is $5. Insurance is REQUIRED and costs another $1.50

Imagine my surprise when MY game arrived smashed & broken due to poor wrapping. Furthermore, it was sent MEDIA MAIL with NO INSURANCE.

This dickhead pocketed $5 off me.

What's more, he sells A LOT of stuff on Ebay.

If he's doing this regularly, he's making hundreds (actually, thousands) of dollars of extra money for shipping and insurance that he doesn't use on his packages.

What do YOU think about this sort of thing?

Did you pay via paypal?

I hate that CRAP. I would e-mail him and ask for the seller for a refund of the difference in shipping. If the game is damaged, I would ask for a full refund. If not, just leave a negative.

Did you pay via paypal?

I did pay via PayPal. I thought about saying I never got the game and getting a refund as he didn't track it, but that's just as dishonest as saying you'll ship first class with insurance for $6.50 and then sending it Media Mail for $1.42. I have already e-mailed him for an explaination and I'm going to be on his ass. If he's doing this to EVERYBODY, then he's making a lot of dishonest cash. Most (I say most) people are honest and wouldn't try to get a chargeback from Paypal. Any money the seller loses from people who do chargebacks is more than covered by the money he makes off overpriced shipping.

Ass!

Dude, you don't have to lie, just simply ask for a refund. If he won't give it, then attempt a chargeback on the grounds that the item was not as described.

I sent him this e-mail...

ATTENTION. I paid $5 for shipping and $1.50 for the required insurance. You paid $1.42 to send it MEDIA MAIL. The game is crushed. Where is the insurance? Where is the first class shipping? Are you doing this to everyone? $5 overcharge on all items (if that is in fact what you are doing) is adding up to a lot of extra cash for you. I need an explaination before I pursue this further. Please reply.

He replied...

Shipping is posted and it includes paypal and ebay fees, handling, packaging materials, and the postage. The item was only $0.01 so after all the fees I am basically giving it to you.

It seems he is not going to answer the media mail vs. promised 1st class issue.

Typical fee avoidence.....the person is passing on charges to you for PayPal, which is aganist EBay's rules. Complain to EBay about it.

Am I missing something? Didn't the item go for $18?

Where does he get that it only cost a penny. Or is the auction you quote on the top of the page just an example and not the actual item you are having a problem with?

All I know is that this type of thing happens all the time. Tell him that you paid for insurance and would like to use it. If he had put Post Office insurance on it they would pay for a percentage of it since the case was broken (game is still playable?). Maybe you could get some cash back out of them this way.

If you look through his negatives, you should see one from Videogamer. That's me. He did the same thing to me, the game case came damaged, nor was it insured. I filed it through Paypal and lost. He also retaliated with a negative. Sorry I don't have better news, but be careful with him.

The insurance thing is BS but I don't see where he says he will ship it first class.

In the middle of the text it reads:

Shipping and handling is listed below. All video games are shipped via USPS first class mail and all strategy guides are shipped via USPS media mail. Video game systems are large games are either shipped via media or priority mail. I will combine shipping in most cases, please e-mail me for details.

Also I was thinking about the media mail part. The conditions for media mail is that there are NO ads in the contents... basically it is illegal to send magazines for example by media mail because of the ads. Since you got an intruction booklet it should contain an ad or two. Therefore it is illegal for him to send that. You can take that to the post office and get him busted for that on top of the obvious fraud he pulled on you. I got ripped off by onecent games with that same crap... it makes me FURIOUS.

Maybe if we bust them all they will stop... or at least make us feel better lol

The guy required that you pay for insurance and the game arrived damaged. That's exactly what the insurance that you paid for is for. File for a damage claim with the post office.

Now if the guy didn't actually pay for the insurance then I think you have him by the balls and can easily get your money back from Paypal and have grounds for a Paypal complaint.

Actually, if the guy responded to your email stating that the added fees are to cover his Paypal and eBay fees than you dininately have him by the balls if you forward that email to Paypal and eBay. It's against Paypal's terms of service to add a surcharge for their fees and this guy blantantly admits that thats what he;s doing. you can threaten to have his account suspended. Of course you most likely get a negative for it in return.

Have somebody host a small webpage for you and post the picutres and an explanation about what happened.. then take the URL and cut/paste it as the NEG feedback. Keep the page up until he issues a refund.

Find a few people who have bad accounts and have them bid SUPER high on all of his auctions and no pay them. Tell him that it will continue till you get a refund.. it actually worked for my roomate who got a busted palm pilot.. He had made 3 ebay accounts with expired creditcards and went through and bid thousands on all of this guys auctions (and he had like 30 or so).. He lost more money from paying for the auctions than he did if he would have issued a refund lol..

You can't do that. Ebay will remove the negative if you do that.

This guy ripped me off as well. We need t oadd hip to the Blacklist. Basically he did the same to me but worse. I bouth like 4 things from hime. Paid $12 S&H. Received items in a similar envelope, no packaging, no insurance. One of the CD cases was cracked to all hell. One of the items, Double Dragon for the SMS, was not the same as the item pictured, with label wear and missing the insturctions. Another game was in worse condition than the one pictured. I complained about everything: The over charge on shipping, the no insurance, the lack of packaging and the items not as described. He only refunded me the price of the Double Dragon. He didn't address the other issues.

My advice to you is complain and maybe you'll get some $ back.

For everyone else, STAY AWAY FROM THIS SELLER.

I hate sellers like this. I get them all the time.

When I pay decent money for P&P, I expect it to be sent as advertised. So if it states it is insured, or sent recorded, I expect it to be just that.

I am also aware of how much things weigh and cost, and how much a BRAND NEW jiffy bag costs.

I also hate people who fabricate their own packages. If I am paying over £2.50 for P&P of a PlayStation game, then I expect it to be sent in a brand new jiffy - Not a third hand package which cost the seller nothing.

Nearly all eBay sellers (Except the good ones and larger companies) rip people off where P&P is concerned.

A lot of people also hide PayPal fees into their P&P prices. Some are also blatent about doing so.

When a seller has his auctions ended for charging for paypal. Ebay will send out an email suggesting them to do this. Can you blame them?

I hate this sort of crap  . I don't mind people charging more for postage than the actual cost, providing that sellers state the cost and method of postage beforehand and then actually stick to it. I have lost count of the times I have paid for recorded delivery (+65p) or special delivery (+£3ish), and then it arrives in an unpadded envelope without any insurance

*raises eyebrows*

Some of the homemade packaging I have created is much more durable than most store-bought bubble envelopes or whatever...

If I ship a strategy guide to someone, for example, I wrap that thing in mega-foam and sandwich it between two pieces of 2-ply cardboard. You could play football with the thing and it would emerge unscathed. Try doing that with a bubble envelope... or even a priority mail box. :\

There are some sellers who are extremely adept at homemade packaging, and there is absolutely no shame in recycling packages you received from other purchases. Still though, there is no excuse for a poorly packaged product. Better to err on the safe side.

I don't know how people can send things in jewel cases in unpadded envelopes though... makes me angry. :\

I have no problem if they are going to pass the ebay and paypal charge on to the buyer because they are trying to make money and companies always charge more in there Shipping and Handling charges to make money but when you don't even ship the item the way you say you are and say you must get insurance and than don't that just pisses me off!!!!!!
