Comix Zone was yet another game about which I had heard good things back in the day. (I still remember Sega's commercials for it.) I finally got around to tossing it into my PC recently.
Oh, it's all very nice looking, but it's been quite a while since I have felt so 0wned! I can barely make it halfway through the second level without dying. The game could definitely use a few more health powerups, given that you only have one life and no continues.
But this is supposed to be a good game, right? If I keep at it, it will get easier, and it will be worth it, right?

No matter what I do, I don't really get better at it. But that's probably just me personally. I still enjoy what I do get through, for the most part. You could say I know it's a great game, even though I'm so terrible at it. I can get past its difficulty. :)
You've just got to play cautiously. It's certainly not as bad as a roguelike on that count, but your progress is dependent on managing your resources, being a clever explorerer, and learning the fighting system well. And man, you'll feel 1337 once you take down those staff-wielding bastards as easily as a mutant on page 1!

Oh, and how's the sound? I generally hate the super-smooth MIDI most PCs put out - I often feel Sound Blaster 16/Pro era ('96 and earlier) sound is superior to the newer systems (though sometimes I don't feel it's harmed, i.e. the Rise of the Triad score, but now I'm rambling again). Other than that potential issue, the game has aged very well and remains among my top titles of all time.
And yes, getting through this game definitely gives a sense of accomplishment. It's a great feeling to be able to breeze through the game up to The Temple, and then breeze through that. Lovely game.

One of my favorite genesis games. It's pretty easy up to the Kung Fu Master boss fight. Once you learn the levels and the tricks at getting around some of the traps, it's a cinch. The Kung Fu master can be pretty tough. You gotta jump and dodge when fighting that guy like crazy. The levels afterwards can get pretty tough. The final boss though is rediculously easy, so if you get through the pain in the ass level, you should kick his ass with no problem.

Comix Zone? Probably my favorite Genny game. It was beautiful, it sounded good, it was fun to play, though it is a pretty tough one to play. I loved it (though same with me, I never got very good at it, and I didn't seem to be getting better).

Agreed. One of the finest genny games ever made.. they ported it to gameboy advance in the UK.. I was pretty excited until I found out it wasn't updated at all.. A sequal on gameboy would have been awesome.. oh well.. we do have the new gunstar heroes comin out..

at the time it's was the bees knees (graphics) but it didn't stand the test of time imo
I won't make an effort to play it again, sonic 2 however....

Huh? Gamefaqs says it's Cameron, actually. ;)

Yeah, that old instrument set has its charms. I still haven't checked out the soundtrack CD to see if it sounds substantially different.

Great game, still love it. A unique style and it also comes with an ok cd with some good rock-songs.
Oh and it isn't that hard I finished the game a lot of times.

I love that game, like everyone else, on of my favorites for the Genny. Just an all around solid, hard, fun game that can still hold a candle to modern games.

Ahh, no wonder it doesn't work for me! ;D
Funny...I know I've looked it up before and seen the correct cheat, but for years and years I've continued to think it was Priscilla. I don't have a clue why.
