I am trying to figure out the difference between NES boxes with different colored seals of quality on the front. I have 2 copies of Castlevania and one had a white seal, the other has a black seal. if anyone knows what this means could you let me know by responding or PMing me. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Black seal is older, pre 1988. They changed the seal twice in the usa. tHE European seals are white and look like the old black NES seal you refer to.

They also chanced seals in Europe. Older games can have the oval seals (just like in the US), rereleases of these game have the round seal.

In the U.S, Nintendo started with the black circle seal, and then went to the white oval (in I think 1987). Alot of games have both a black seal, and a white oval seal version (MegaMan 1 for example). There are actually some collectors who are trying to collect ALL NES games ever released, including the seal variations and everything. Some may call it crazy, but I call it dedicated! ;)
